Turners Falls, MassachusettsWilliam C. Wong, Sr., 92, of Vladish Avenue passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 11, 2015, in the presence of members of his loving family. Bill was born in Dover, NH on August 4, 1922, the son of Chung and Lou Shee Wong.He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years Ping N. Wong; his adoring children: Nancy Wong (Benny) of NJ, Sandra Wong Barile (Jim) of CT, Diana Wong Slusarczyk (Ron) of VT, Karen Cohen of NJ, William C. Wong Jr. (Becky), Edward Wong(Marilyn) all from Greenfield, MA. Additionally, he leaves his loving grandchildren: Tyler Slusarczyk, Anthony Barile, Jack Slusarczyk, Samantha Barile and Gregory Wong. Bill is also remembered with affection by his brother, Jim Wong (Lucy) and his sisters, Blanche Woo (Frank), Violet Partridge (Ken), Helen Wong, Winifred Wong and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Chung and Lou Shee Wong, his brothers, Thomas, Edward, Frank, Walter and Alfred.He served in the United States Maritime Service during WWII and attained the rate of STM3C. He worked in the family owned Chinese restaurants, for the Prophylactic Brush Company and Walt’s Bakery. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his garden, fishing and tending to the woodstove to keep the house warm during the winter months.The family wishes to extend their appreciation and gratitude to Collective Home Care, Franklin County Home Health Care and Hospice of Franklin County for their excellent care over the past year.The Wong family will receive guests on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at the McCarthy Funeral Homes, 14 Prospect Street, Turners Falls, MA from 10:00AM until 12 Noon. At noon, a call to service will be offered by Rev. Wayne Collier, Associate Pastor of the Congregation of Grace Church in Turners Falls, MA who will offer a prayer service where family and friends will be invited to share their memories of Bill. Rites of committal will follow in the Green River Cemetery, Greenfield, MA, and they will be observed in keeping with Chinese tradition. These rites will include a processional from the funeral home that will pause at the Wong residence in route to the cemetery. At the conclusion of the cemetery rites, a gathering in Bill’s memory will take place at the Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club, Turners Falls, MA from 2-7:00 PM and all are invited to join his family in this celebration of his life. Expressions of affection in Bill’s memory are preferred in lieu of flowers to Hospice of Franklin County, 329 Conway St., Greenfield, MA 01301.
