Veona C. Towne

Veona Constance (Barnes) Towne, 84, of 457 Millers Falls Road, died peacefully on Saturday evening, September 12, 2015 at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, MA, following a period of declining health. 
A native of Leverett, MA, she was born on June 1, 1931 to Charles and Doris (Ingraham) Barnes.  She was educated in Leverett and Amherst Public Schools and was a graduate of Amherst High School.
Veona was a homemaker, an elderly private care provider and worked for a period of time as a floral arranger for the former Yetters the Florist in Greenfield, MA.  She loved writing poetry and was a published poet.  Veona was an accomplished cook, who loved canning and enjoyed the farm life with her loving husband Elmer E. Towne, whom she married on December 18, 1954. They made their home in Northfield MA for many years prior to moving to Montague. He predeceased her following nearly 61 years of marriage, on August 25, 2015. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. 
Veona is loving remembered by her brothers: David Barnes and his wife Carol and Warren Barnes and his wife Judy, along with several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. 
Additionally, she leaves her loving children: Venna Parker and her husband Craig, of Millers Falls, MA; Dustin Towne and his wife Janice, of Gill, MA; Duane Towne and his wife Vanessa, of Northfield, MA and Ellen Kingsbury and her fiancé Frank Gromaski, of Whately, MA.  She also leaves 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren who adore her.  Veona’s family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation for the loving care and attention provided to their mother by Jennie, Danielle and in particular to Andi, who is affectionately regarded as a member of the family. 
Services in celebration of Veona’s life will be observed on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 11:00AM, at the North Leverett Baptist Church, 70 North Leverett Road, Leverett, MA, with Rev. Verne Williams, Pastor of the Congregation of Grace Church, Turners Falls, MA to officiate.  Interment will follow in the Plainview Cemetery, North Leverett, MA.  Visiting hours will be conducted on Friday evening, September 18, 2015 from the McCarthy Funeral Homes, 36 Bank Row, Greenfield, MA from 6:00PM until 8:00PM.  Expressions of affection in the form of a charitable contribution in Veona’s memory are suggested in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter, 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
