Susan Victoria Corsiglia, 69, of Fitchburg, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday evening, March 8, 2017 at the UMass Health Alliance Hospital in Leominster, MA, following a period of declining health.
A beloved daughter of Betty (Elliott) and Paul M. Corsiglia, Susan was born in Greenfield, MA, on February 16, 1948. Cerebral palsy made her life’s journey a tortuous challenge, which she met with dignity, patience, and courage. She spent the last decade of her life in an extraordinarily supportive group home with an abundance of love and laughter, where her perpetual good spirits were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Susan cared deeply for all animals, especially cats; she loved anything in the color red, enjoyed knitting (left-handed!), painting, reading and music, and relished outings with her housemates. But her greatest joy was visiting with family and friends, and she never failed to remember anyone’s birthday!
She will be greatly missed by her two sisters: Carolyn Corsiglia of Athol, MA and Patricia Corsiglia of Shelburne Falls, MA. Additionally, Susan leaves her adoring nieces and nephews: Lesli Matloff and her husband Jeffrey; Michael Haseltine and his wife Rosemary; Mark Haseltine and his husband Brad McCord; Melissa Haseltine and her fiancé Mark Huggins; several grandnieces and grandnephews, and her dear friend, Bonnie Johnson.
The family is immeasurably grateful to all the friends and caregivers who have enriched her life over the years, especially her current “family” at The Bridge Women’s Residence in Fitchburg.
Services will be private with burial in the Green River Cemetery, Greenfield, MA in the Corsiglia family plot. Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, Susan would have been happy for any animal welfare support.
