Holyoke, MAHOLYOKE, MASSACHUSETTS Mr. Stacy Haywood Guin, 88, of 485 South Street, passed peacefully on Tuesday morning, August 2, 2016 at the Charlene Manor Extended Care Nursing Facility, 130 Colrain Road, Greenfield, MA, following a period of declining health.A native on Raeford, NC, he was born on June 18, 1928 and attended local public schools. He enlisted in the US Army during the war effort of WWII, and was assigned to the Army Air Corps, 6th Air Service Group as an aircraft airframe technician, received the WWII Victory Medal, and was discharged in 1947. He extended his military service by enlisting in the USAF and served honorably for a second time in the Korean Conflict where he received the Korean Service Medal w/1 Bronze Star and the UN Service Medal. He remained in the USAF until his retirement on February 20th, 1989 with the rank of Master Sgt.Upon his discharge from active duty in 1953, Stacy worked for Kaman Aero Space in Bloomfield, CT for 20 years. He then accepted a position with the Department of Defense at Westover AFB in Chicopee, as a civilian specialist. He married the love of his life, the former Barbara L. White, on August 9, 1952 in the Sacred Heart Church, Holyoke, MA after a whirlwind courtship of only 8 months. They would have celebrated their 64th anniversary this month. Stacy and Barbara were accomplished square dance enthusiasts who received the distinguished service award from the Western Massachusetts Square Dance Co-Op. They were members of the Chic-mates Square Dance Club, where Stacy was a past president. Stacy was an avid sportsman who enjoyed the outdoors and was a member of the Hatfield Fish & Game Club, as well as the South Hadley Sportsman’s Club. He was also a member of the “Afterburners” retiree’s club of the USAF at Westover AFB. Survivors include his beloved wife Barbara, of Holyoke, MA, as well as their three children: David and his wife Ann, of Westfield, MA; Deborah Bean and her husband Matthew, of Southampton, MA and Daniel and his wife Tammy, of Greenfield, MA. Additionally he leaves his sister Sara Pittman of Raeford, NC, as well as 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews who will remember him with great affection. He was predeceased by his brother Grady Guin and by his canine companion “Harley”.Services honoring Stacy's patriotism and a celebration of his life, will be conducted on FRIDAY, AUGUST 5, 2016 at 10:00AM in the chapel of the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA. Mr. David Whiteley, Chaplain with the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, Leeds, MA and friend of the Guin family will officiate. A collation gathering will be announced at the close of the services. The USAF Elite Patriot Honor Guard from Westover AFB will be in attendance and provide military honors. Visiting hours are omitted.
