Saul Sherter, 87, of Greenfield, Massachusetts, passed away expectantly on September 8th. He passed as the result of a traumatic brain injury from a fall precipitated by a vasovagal episode.
Saul was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Ida and Abraham Sherter. He grew up with his sister Esther and brother Jason. As a teen he loved playing baseball and had many great memories of seeing the Red Sox play at Fenway Park.
In his late 20s he met and married his wife Charlotte and had two children. Being a kind and dependable husband and father was of the utmost importance to Saul and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family.
Saul graduated from a graduate program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and went on to be a well-known and liked professor of history at Greenfield Community College. He taught there for over 40 years.
Saul was an active member of the local Jewish community and enjoyed services and Torah study at Temple Israel. He also dedicated over 20 years serving his country in the Air Force Reserves.
Saul is survived by his children, Scott Sherter and Meredith Benston and his grandchildren, Liam and Dio Benston. He was preceded in passing by his wife, Charlotte Sherter, who died in 2010.
Graveside services will be observed on Tuesday, September 13th at the Greenfield Hebrew Cemetery located at 267 Log Plain Road East in Greenfield at 1pm. Rabbi Andrea Cohen-Kiener, Religious Leader of Temple Israel, Greenfield, MA to officiate.
