Greenfield, MassachusettsRuth Eileen (Casey) Dion, daughter of the late William F. Casey and Irene (Witt) Casey, passed away peacefully at Charlene Manor Nursing Home on November 7, 2015. She was born in Stratford, Connecticut on November 6, 1920. After graduating from Greenfield High School and Bay Path College, Ruth worked as a stenographer for The Brattleboro Retreat until 1947 when she married Henry A. Dion. They enjoyed the next 67 wonderful years of their lives together. She was an avid reader, flower gardener, antique collector and artist. Ruth also worked for several area physicians as a medical transcriptionist. She loved the great outdoors, spending time with her family and friends, especially at “The Camp” and at her daughter’s lake house.Ruth was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church in Greenfield and a member of the Rosary Society for many years. Ruth was predeceased buy her husband Henry and her sister Katherine (Casey) Moore. She is survived by her three children: Tom Dion and his wife Susan, William Dion and his fiancée Mary Behaylo, and Claire Martineau and her husband Gary. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, her brother William Casey Jr. and his wife Helen along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and great grandnieces and great grandnephews. Ruth will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Funeral Services in celebration of Ruth’s life will be observed on Thursday, November 12, 2015 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament Church, 221 Federal Street, Greenfield, MA at 10:00AM, with Msgr. Ronald G. Yargeau, Pastor of Holy Trinity Church as the celebrant. Rites of committal and burial will follow in the Green River Cemetery, Greenfield, MA. A reception will be announced at the conclusion of the committal services. Visiting hours are omitted. Ruth’s family will receive guests in the vestibule of the church from 9:00AM until the time of the funeral liturgy on Thursday morning. Ruth's family would like to thank all the caregivers who assisted her over the past years, especially the Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility and Hospice of Franklin County.
