Turners Falls, MassachusettsRoger Leroy Adams, Sr., 72, formerly of Turners Falls, MA and a resident of the Governor's House, 66 Broad Street, Westfield, MA, passed peacefully on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Baystate Noble Hospital, 115 W. Silver Street, following a period of declining health. He was born on May 25, 1946 in Montague, MA, to Alma Rose (Lavigne) and Herbert Stanley Adams and was educated in local public schools and a graduate of Turners Falls High School in the Class of 1964.
Roger enlisted in the USN in October of 1964, serving honorably aboard the USS Paricutin AE-18 and attained a rate of E-3 and was discharged in October of 1968. Upon his return to civilian life, he accepted a position with the former Strathmore Paper Company in Turners Falls, MA as a machinist in the beater room, where he worked for over 25 years prior to his retirement. Roger was an avid card and cribbage player, and a devoted life-long Red Sox fan.
He leaves his loving daughter, Cheryl Ann Larson of Lawrenceburg, TN, as well as his daughter-in-law Teresa Adams of Southampton, MA, wife of his late son Sgt. Roger L. Adams, Jr., who as a member of the Army National Guard died during his deployment to Iraq, losing his life in the line of duty on June 29, 2009. Additionally, he leaves his siblings: Bertha Choiniere of Greenfield, MA; Theresa Wright, of VT and Rita Deyo of Buckland, MA. Roger is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Tyler, Samuel, Maxwell and Baylee, as well as by several nieces and nephews, who include his god-daughter Michelle Giangreco and her husband Jay and their son Greyson, and his god-son Eric Adams and his life partner Heather, and their daughter Taylor. Additionally there are several grandnieces and grandnephews to remember him with affection, as well as his sister-in-law Corleen A. (Deome) Adams of Turners Falls, MA.
Roger was predeceased by his parents, as well as his three brothers, Herbert, Leonard and Paul Adams (2017).
Visiting hours will be omitted. A celebration of life gathering will take place at the privacy of the family, with military honors.
