Roberta A. (Greene) Jackman, 82, passed peacefully on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at the Elaine Center at Hadley Genesis Healthcare, 20 North Maple Street, Hadley, MA, following a period of declining health.
A native of Greenfield, MA she was born on January 20, 1936 to Beatrice L. (LeMoine) and Harry A. Greene. She was educated in Holy Trinity School and Greenfield public schools graduating in 1954 from Greenfield High School. She was voted Homemaker of Tomorrow in her class. She worked at Rockdale’s, Bill’s Restaurant ,a nurse’s aide at The Anchorage Nursing Home ,and Franklin Nursing Home, Buckley Nursing Home in the Laundry Department ,and lastly for Charlene Manor in the Laundry Department.
She married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Robert E. Jackman on October 30, 1954 in Holy Trinity Church, Greenfield, MA. They had celebrated 62 years of marriage following Robert’s passing in 2017. She liked to be called “Bobbie”. She was a big fan of the country western singer Alan Jackson, had attended his concerts ,and had a large collection of his music and paraphernalia .She had shared a love of square dancing with her husband and they were members of the Trail Town Twirlers for many years. Additionally, they enjoyed traveling with their dear friends Bob and Carol Gillis. She will be remembered by those closest to her for her endearing love and devotion to family and her great apple crisp, cheesecake, coleslaw and potato salad.
She leaves to remember her with great affection, her children: Bonnie J .Butler and her husband Louis of Belchertown, MA, Barbara J. Vaughan of Greenfield, MA, Robert E.”Bob”Jr., and his partner Sylvia Boyden of Montgomery, MA, Brian. P. and his wife Karen, of Bourne, MA, William A. “Bill” and his wife Peggy of Turners Falls, MA, and Barry J. And his wife Elice of Alstead, NH. She was predeceased by a daughter Tina M., and a son Bruce R. Additionally, she leaves her brothers Robert Greene and his spouse Dan Rockwell of Sunderland, MA, Michael Greene and wife Debbie of Upland, CA, and sisters Donna Scopa of Turners Falls, MA, and Cindi Barkley of MA., in addition to 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is remembered by her dear friends Bob Gillis and Dale Vaughan.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will take place on Sunday ,January 13, 2019 at 3:00PM at the McCarthy Funeral Home,36 Bank Row, Greenfield, MA with members of her family to offer loving remembrances in her memory. The Jackman family will receive guests prior from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. In keeping with Roberta’s request for simplicity, she will be cremated and a private inurnment will take place in the spring at the convenience of the family in the Red Brick Cemetery, Colrain, MA.
Expressions of sympathy in the form of a charitable donation in her memory, are requested in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer’s Association of Massachusetts Chapter, 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
