Greenfield, MassachusettsRichard P. “Dick” Kimball, 94, a resident of 120 Shelburne Road, was called home by the Lord on Friday evening, July 27, 2018. He was born in Greenfield, MA on February 24, 1924, to Frank and Helen (Dennison) Kimball. Dick attended Greenfield Public Schools, Greenfield High School where he played varsity football and was a graduate of the Class of 1943. Dick also played semi-professional football for the former Greenfield Lion’s. Upon his graduation, he enlisted in the USMC on June 22, 1943 serving during WWII with the 603rd Marine Corps Field Artillery Division, as an Anti-Aircraft Battery Searchlight Operator. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific campaign, attaining the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged on January 8, 1946. Three days later, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Shirley Campbell and they raised a family of six children together. Sadly, she predeceased Dick in 1984. He founded Kimball’s Laundry, a fixture in the Greenfield business community, as well as the former Wedgewood Gardens. Civic minded, Dick served as a past trustee and current honorary trustee of the Greenfield Savings Bank, trustee of the Robbin’s Memorial Church and on the advisory board of the Salvation Army Citadel in Greenfield for many years. Upon his retirement, he married Jane Welcome who sadly, predeceased Dick on January 8, 2015. He leaves his devoted and loving children: Karin Delpha, Carol Roberts, Merri Bourbeau, Richard W. Kimball, Terry Kimball and Dan Kimball, as well as 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Additionally, he leaves his step children: Evelyn Walsh, Gerald Welcome and Dale Welcome. A memorial celebration of Dick’s life will be given by his family at the Terrazza Restaurant, at the Greenfield Country Club on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. All relatives and friends are invited to join them to share remembrances of him. Visiting hours are omitted.
