Montague Center, MAPriscilla A. (Allis) Pierce, 89, formerly of 17 Station Street, Montague Center, MA and a resident of the Charlene Manor Extended Care Nursing Facility, 330 Colrain Road,Greenfield, MA died Saturday evening, September 13, 2014 at the nursing facility following a period of declining health.A native of Tunbridge, Vermont, she was born on July 6, 1925 to Neal and Sarah (Little) Allis. She moved with her parents as a child to Montague and was educated in local public schools, a graduate of TFHS in the Class of 1943. Following her graduation from high school, she went to work for Gulow's Hardware Store in Turners Falls. Priscilla worked there until her marriage to Robert F. Pierce. They were married in 1946 at the First Congregational Church of Turners Falls. Priscilla became a full time-stay at home wife and mother, as they welcomed the arrival of their children Susan and Brian. Some years later, she went back to work at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where she worked in several departments and retired from the Forestry and Wildlife Department in 1991 as a bookkeeper.She joined the First Congregational Church of Montague Center in 1949. Priscilla served as a past secretary of the congregation, was a member of the Ladies Benevolent Society of the church, where she served on numerous church dinners and church events including the “Old Home Days” celebration each year. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for many years. Priscilla also served as the clerk of the Montague Center Lighting District for many years. She enjoyed candlepin bowling and card playing. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years in 1992. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Susan Burnham of Cove, Arkansas and Brian R. Pierce of Montague Center, MA. In addition, she leaves her sister, Patricia Waryasz of Goffstown, NH, (wife of the late Walter Waryasz, Sr.) formerly of Turners Falls, MA as well as several cousins. Services in celebration of Priscilla’s life and many gifts, will be observed on Thursday, September 18, 2014 with a graveside gathering at 10:00AM at the Locust Hill Cemetery, located on Depot Street, Montague Center, MA with Rev. Barbara Turner Delisle, Pastor of the First Congregational Church of Montague to officiate. A reception will follow the services at the cemetery in the fellowship hall of the church.
