Paul Campbell Obituary

Paul Frederick Campbell, 86, a resident of 31 "O" Street, in the Turners Falls section of the Town of Montague, and Deputy Chief (Ret.) for the Greenfield Fire Department, passed peacefully on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at the Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility, 130 Colrain Road, Greenfield, MA, following a period of declining heath.

Paul was born on July 6, 1936, in Greenfield, MA, to Mildred U. Clark and James Michael Campbell. He was educated at the former Holy Trinity Parochial School, Greenfield Public Schools and a graduate of GHS in the Class of 1954. Paul served honorably in the United States Navy, entering on July 6, 1955, assigned to Naval Air Station @ Quonset Point, R. I., and was discharged with the rank of AMS-3 on July 2, 1959.

Upon his return to civilian life, Paul took the Massachusetts Civil Service Exam for Firefighter's and was appointed to the Greenfield Fire Department in 1960. He served 31 years for the City of Greenfield, attaining the rank of Deputy Chief and retired in 1991. Paul will be remembered for his leadership and his friendship to those he had the pleasure of working for and with during his career. He attended Greenfield Community College, taking classes in Fire Science Technology to enhance his knowledge in pursuit of advancing his career. Paul also worked part-time for the former Yetter's the Florist in Greenfield for over 35 years.

A devout Catholic, Paul was formerly a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish, Greenfield, MA and currently, was a parishioner of Our Lady of Peace Church in Turners Falls, MA. He was a former Cub Scout Leader, who enjoyed camping with family and friends. He looked forward to annual holiday celebrations, and was a devoted fan the Red Sox, Bruins and New England Patriots. Paul enjoyed maintaining his flower gardens, that beautified his home.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 63 years, the former Carol Ann Kenney, whom he married on April 11, 1959, in Holy Trinity Church. Paul fondly served, led and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family who were most important to him. He leaves their children and grandchildren: Jeff P. Campbell, his wife Roberta and their children Bethanie (Ethan) and (granddaughter- Olivia) and Charity; Lisa Ann Kimball, her children Nicholas (Andrea), Colby, Sara (Grandson-Camden) Kellie; Sharon Andrew (Paul) and their children Stacey (Kevin) and Scott (Brittany) in addition to several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Paul is remembered with affection by his sisters Patricia Rogalski, Mary Lou Moore, as well as by his sister-in-law Marie Campbell and brother-in-law Larry Roy. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his brothers James and Robert Campbell and his sister Elizabeth Roy.

Paul's family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of the Charlene Manor Extended Care, especially to those in the Homestead Memory Unit for their unwavering and compassionate care, and additionally to the parish community of Our Lady of Peace Church, most notably to Rev. Fr. Stanley J. Aksamit, Deacon Joseph Bucci, Pastoral Minister Marguerite Noga and the staff and parishioners for their continued spiritual support over the past several years.

In keeping with Paul's request for simplicity, following cremation he will be interred at the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA, in a private service for family. Military honors will be observed, with a detachment from the USN in attendance, accompanied by uniformed colleagues in Fire Service. Visiting hours are omitted. A Mass will be held in Paul's memory at Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh Street, Turners Falls, MA, at a date and time to be announced and all are invited to join Paul's family on this occasion to celebrate his life. Expressions of one's affection in Paul's memory, are suggested Our Lady of Peace Church, in c/o the parish Social Justice Commission in support of the parishes "Community Meals" program or to the Greenfield Fire Department Fund, 53 Hope Street, Greenfield, MA 01301.
