Patricia Hyman Obituary

Patricia Anne Hyman, 94, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024, at the Ellis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Norwood, MA. She was the cherished wife of the late Robert I. Hyman, who predeceased her on April 13, 1989.

Born on September 8, 1929 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Patricia traveled to New York City in her early twenties to pursue a nursing career. She went on to earn a Master of Science degree at Adelphi University, worked at several long-term care facilities as a clinical nursing specialist in gerontology, and ended her professional career with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Long-term Care Facilities. In her retirement, she became a patient-care volunteer with the Norfolk County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.

Patricia had a lifelong and deep love for music. She enjoyed playing the piano, attending opera performances, and singing in choral groups including the Neponset Choral Society in Foxboro, MA, and the Harvard-Radcliffe Chorus in Cambridge, MA. Patricia loved exploring new neighborhoods on summer bike rides with her three children and frequent swims in the family pool with her beloved husband Robert. She was a lover of cats, the New York Times, and the Royal Family.

Patricia is survived by her three children, Richard Hyman of Fairport, NY, Sara Henry of Fort Myers, FL, and Barbara Raney of Attleboro, MA; her sisters Sue Baldwin-O’Dea of Batesville, IN, and Dorothy Buerger of Cincinnati, OH; and grandchildren Allison, Andrew and Austin Hyman, and Daniel and Katie Raney.

A service to celebrate Patricia’s life will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at 12:00pm at the Greenfield Hebrew Congregation Cemetery, 276 Log Plain Road East, Greenfield, MA, where Patricia will be reunited with her beloved husband of 31 years, Robert. Donations in Patricia’s honor can be made to the ASPCA. McCarthy Funeral Homes of Greenfield, entrusted with Patricia’s care and arrangements.
