Normena R. (Shaw) Welcome, 84, a resident of 352 Upper Road, died peacefully on Sunday, October 16, 2016, following a period of declining health.
A native of Colrain, MA, she was born on August 10, 1932 to William L. and Ethel I. (Churchill) Shaw and was educated in Charlemont Public Schools.  She worked for several years for the Honey Haven Fruit Farm, West Deerfield, MA as a sorter/grader and retired in 1987. 
She married Percy W. Welcome on July 2, 1949 in East Charlemont, MA and they made their home in West Deerfield, MA.  Percy predeceased her in February of 1993 following 44 years of marriage together.
Normena was a member of the Robbins Memorial Church in Greenfield, where she was formerly a member of the choir.  She had many interests that included crocheting, sewing, needlepoint, painting, arts & crafts, making dolls, tending to house plants and flowers and a love of country music. 
Survivors include her children: Wesley P., (Jodi) of Lunenburg, VT, and George of Lunenburg, VT, Mark A. (Carolyn), of Canton, ME and Lois E. Raymond (Keith S. Sr.,) of Orange, MA.  In addition she leaves her siblings: Rose Hyslop, Laconia, NH; Thelma Marston, of TX; Helen Rau of Orange, MA and James Shaw of Lampue, CA   Additionally she leaves 4 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and cousins.   She was predeceased by her siblings: Octavia Brothers, Norma Garland, (her twin sister) Nadine Joseph, Robert Shaw, John Shaw, Bruce Shaw and George Shaw.
In keeping with Normena’s request for simplicity, graveside services will be conducted at the West Deerfield Cemetery, Upper Road, West Deerfield, MA on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2016, at 11:00AM.  Rev. Dale Proulx, Pastor, of Robbins Memorial Church will officiate. Visiting hours will be omitted at the request of the deceased.  Flowers are respectfully asked to be omitted, with expressions of affection in the form of a charitable contribution in Normena’s memory to be directed to South County Senior Center, #67 North Main Street, South Deerfield, MA 01373 or to the Upper Pioneer Valley Veteran’s District, 294 Main Street, Greenfield, MA 01301.
