It is with sadness and affection, that we the children of Joan M. (Shulda) and Norman R. Oates, Sr., announce their passing. Joan was born on November 12, 1930 in Greenfield, MA, the daughter of John F. and Audrey M (Loveland) Shulda. Norman was born was born on September 4, 1928 in Greenfield, MA, the son of Samuel R. and Dora K. (Valley) Oates. They resided in Greenfield for many years, later relocating to Lady Lake, FL in their retirement.
Joan and Norman, were married on September 5, 1949. Norman was the founder of Norman R. Oates, Inc., Propane Delivery and retired in 1992. Joan was employed as a bookkeeper for the Greenfield/Montague Transportation Area, later joining her husband in the operation of the family business and retired in 1993.
They are remembered with affection by their children, son Norman R. Oates, Jr., of FL., daughters Deborah L. Pittman, of FL., and Kathryn J. Harmacek of NH., in addition to 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be observed in their memory on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 11:00AM at Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main Street, Greenfield, MA. Interment will take place at the privacy of the family in Calvary Cemetery, Greenfield, MA. Expressions of one’s affection are preferred in lieu of flowers to Holy Trinity Church, c/o the parish office at 14 Beacon Street, Greenfield, MA 01301.
