Greenfield, MassachusettsMary G. (Gibbs) Sokoloski, 94, of 54 High Street, Weldon House Apartments, died peacefully on Friday evening, November 28, 2014, at the Poet Seat Health Care Center, following a period of declining health, in the company of her devoted daughter. A native of Deerfield, MA, she was born on March 15, 1920, the last of 12 children born to Peter and Mary (Markoski) Gibbs. She was educated in local public schools. Mary worked for several years at the former Franklin County Public Hospital, later known as Franklin Medical Center in the Med. Surg. Department as a seamstress, retiring in 1985. She was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church in Greenfield, MA. She is survived by her daughter, Carole Murphy and her husband Bob, of Vernon, VT. In addition, she leaves 4 grandchildren: Wendy, Shari, Jonathan and Timothy, as well as several great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.She was predeceased by her parents, as well as by her daughter Janice LaRoche in 2002. At Mary’s request, formal services will be omitted. Following cremation, she will be laid to rest privately in the Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, Greenfield, MA. Expressions of affection are encouraged in the form of a charitable contributions in Mary’s name to Baystate Franklin Medical Center, Office of Development,164 High Street, Greenfield, MA 01301.
