Mary R. Dillensneider

Niskayuna, NY - On February 10, 2018, 16 years to the date of his passing, Mary Dillensneider, 94, rejoined Ronald Dillensneider, her husband of 59 years, while surrounded by her loving family. Mary was also preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mary Ryan and her three older siblings, Regis (Frank) Barry, Paul (Mary) Ryan and Helen (Carl) Petersen.

Mary was born on April 20, 1923 in Ayer, MA and moved to Greenfield, MA at the age of 10. She graduated from Greenfield H.S. in 1940. She met and married Ronald Dillensneider on December 22nd 1942 at the Holy Trinity Rectory. Together they had 2 loving children Gary (Ethel) Dillensneider of Greenfield, MA and Diane (Kenneth) McKenna of Rotterdam, NY.

She was a wonderful grandmother to her six grandchildren - Janet (Peter) Ganem, Kelly (Don) Swift, Brad (Lynn) McKenna and Stacey (Josh) Erwell of NY and Shaina (Mark) Kosloski and Brandy Dillensneider of MA. Her greatest joys were her great grandchildren Gary, Nick, Angelina, Mckenna, Sam, Camdyn, Anna and Declan, along with her great-great grandchildren Gary and Chase.

Mary enjoyed her years of employment at Phoenix of Greenfield, retiring in 1988. Throughout the years, Mary and Ronald went ballroom dancing almost every Saturday night and enjoyed sunny days in the yard reading and doing crosswords. They enjoyed their many travels to Central and South America.

Mary was an avid reader. She showed her intelligence and willingness to keep learning and experiencing new things by using email and Facebook as well as playing Words with Friends starting at nearly 90 years of age. She also remained a New England Patriots fan, kept up on current events, and enjoyed a regular dose of Budweiser. At the time of her passing, she resided at Brookdale Senior Living, where she was appreciated by both residents and staff for her kind and witty spirit. Even in her final days, she entertained hospital staff and family with her tremendous sense of humor.

Mary Dillensneider’s life was celebrated with a private service attended by her immediate family at the McCarthy Funeral Homes, Greenfield, MA. Jack Cooper, Celebrant officiated. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Deerfield, MA. In keeping with her spirit, in lieu of flowers, Mary’s wish was that all who wanted to honor her, please do so with random acts of kindness.
