Mary Conway Obituary

Turners Falls, Massachusetts
Mary H. Conway, 74, a resident of 21 Sunrise Terrace, passed peacefully at home on the morning of March 2, 2021 following a brief illness. A native of Montague, she was born on December 22,1946 to Margaret H. (King) and Michael “Mickey” Joseph Conway at the former Farren Memorial Hospital.
Mary attended Montague Public Schools and was a graduate of Turners Falls High School in the Class of 1965. She furthered her education by attending Dover Business School.
In her youth, Mary was active in the Girl Scouts, as a member of Troop #75 in Turners Falls. A devout Catholic, she was a communicant of the former St. Mary of the Assumption Church, (now known as Our Lady of Peace Church), where she was a member of the Catholic Women’s Council and the parish Altar Society. Mary held the distinction of becoming the first woman Altar Server in the Franklin County Deanery of the Diocese of Springfield.
She was employed by the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in Food Services for nearly 27 years. Mary was an avid fan of the Boston Celtics and enjoyed traveling to Ireland and Bermuda. As leisure time activities, she enjoyed crocheting knitting, jig saw puzzles and Archie Comics.
Mary leaves several cousins and friends to mourn her passing with affection. In keeping with Mary’s requests for simplicity, a Memorial Liturgy of Christian Burial will be observed at Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh Street, Turners Falls, MA, with rites of interment to follow in the Highland Cemetery, Millers Falls, MA, where she will be laid to rest with her parents. A date and time for this celebration of Mary’s life has yet to be determined and will be announced when finalized. Expressions of affection in Mary’s memory are suggested in the form of charitable contribution to Our Lady of Peace Church, in c/o “Social Justice Commission” (to benefit the parishes community meal program), 90 Seventh Street, Turners Falls, MA 01376
