Margaret Jarvis Obituary

Margaret “Peggy” Jarvis entered eternal rest on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after 86 years full of life! Peggy was born in Montague on September 28, 1938, the daughter of George and Lillian Villeneuve.  Raised in Turners Falls, she was educated in the Montague School systems and graduated from Turners Falls High school in 1956.

Peg married the love of her life Ray “Bimp” Jarvis on January 10th of 1959.  They recently celebrated 66 years of marriage.  They made their home in Montague Center, where they raised their four children. Peg was a stay-at-home mom, participating in countless functions, from school plays to sports competitions, to executing celebrations! Peg also helped her husband to grow their swimming pool business, attending numerous functions as well as maintaining all the bookkeeping for the business.  Peg also graduated from Broms Beauty Academy of Holyoke in 1975.  Peg had a home beauty parlor, where she would provide hairdressing for local women, friends and family.

During the early years of married life, Peg and Bimp were members of the Moose Club in Greenfield and the local CB Radio Club. The couple were accomplished square dancers.  In full country garb, they would swing and dance on Saturday nights at the town hall in Montague.  Avid dancers, Peg and Bimp could “cut a rug”, dancing beautifully in sync, whether the dance floor was full or if they were the only ones on it!   Passionate about dancing, Peg could be found tapping her toes or simply dancing in the kitchen whenever the music moved her!  The music was in her, as she also took many keyboard lessons in Florida to enhance her talents.

Peg and her husband enjoyed many years of adventures in Florida.  They were even chosen to be the Grand Marshalls from Massachusetts in a Disney World Parade! They spent more and more time in Florida until they officially became “snowbirds”, making their winter home in Zephyrhills.  They enjoyed sharing their Florida life whenever anyone from “up north” could visit.

Peg had many talents and interests.  She crocheted hundreds of baby blankets, which she donated to the BFMC Birthplace.  She enjoyed painting along with Bob Ross.  Peg also enjoyed sewing, knitting, ceramics, and was always up to trying a new craft.  Peg and Ray spent summers as seasonal campers in Townshend, Vermont, where they were able to enjoy creating special memories with their Great Grandchildren as they grew. Peg was a very social person.  She was always thrilled to gather with the Camperama Lunch Crew ladies.  Peg cherished the families’ annual summer vacations spent at Salisbury Beach.  She also enjoyed playing cards, bingo, puzzles, gardening, and movies, especially the classics.

Peg and Ray recently won the Cutest Couple Contest sponsored by WHAI and other local radio stations.  They were excited to learn they had won on Valentine’s Day, and the staff at BFMC made them feel like celebrities!

Peg leaves behind her beloved husband, Ray “Bimp” Jarvis, at home with their dog Nickey, in Montague.  She also leaves behind her 4 adult children, Sandra (& Jerry) Fortier of Montague, David Jarvis of Turners Falls, Daniel Jarvis (& Nan) of Millers Falls, and Corinna (& Stephen) Fitzpatrick of Turners Falls.  Peg leaves her heart with her grandchildren, Kristi (& Nate) Burnett, Stacey (& Doug) Fish, Jillian Cycz, Kyle Jarvis, Amilee Jarvis, Zachary Jarvis, Walter Fitzpatrick, and Alex Fitzpatrick., as well as her 9 great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren.  Peg leaves a brother, George “Skip” Villeneuve and his wife, Gail, of Greenfield.  She will also be missed by many other family members and friends.

Her faith in Christ and love for family have never wavered.  May she rest in peace after a life well lived and well loved.
