Greenfield, MassachusettsLorraine Doris (Roberge) Hayer, 92, of 93 Highland Avenue, passed peacefully on Monday, May 30, 2016 at the Buckley Health Care Center, Greenfield, MA, following a period of declining health.A native of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, she was born on November 20, 1923 to Alcid and Cora (Hitu) Roberge. Lorraine attended St. Michael’s Parochial School in Brattleboro, VT and was a graduate in the Class of 1941. She furthered her education by attending the Wilson School for Laboratory and X-Ray technology in Boston, MA. She worked for Noble Hospital in Westfield, MA and for the former Franklin County Public Hospital in the laboratory and x-ray department for several years.Lorraine married the George Joseph Hayer on October 1, 1951 at St. Michael’s Church, in Brattleboro, VT. She then devoted herself as a “stay at home” wife and mother, dedicating her time in support of her husband’s legal career and that of raising their family of two children. Lorraine was a member of the Board of Organized Work at Baystate Franklin Medical Center for over 50 years. She served as a former director for the Greenfield YMCA and for many years was active as a volunteer at the Greenfield Girl’s Club. Lorraine was an avid golfer and a former member of the Greenfield Country Club for many years.In her leisure time, she enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and was a sports enthusiast. Lorraine followed all of the New England sports teams including the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and the Patriots. She supported her grandchildren’s sporting activities by attending her granddaughter Elizabeth’s softball games, as well as her grandsons Jarod and Kurt’s baseball games as members of the American Legion Post #81 team. Sadly, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Hon. George Joseph Hayer in November of 2005, following 54 years of marriage. Survivors include her children: Christine Repasy, Esq. of Essex, CT and Dr. Jeffrey M. Hayer, of Greenfield, MA, as well as her grandchildren: Jarod Hayer and his wife Laureen and their son George Joseph, of Tampa, FL; Elizabeth Hayer-Callery and her husband Jacob and their children Conor Abraham and Gavin George, of Granby, MA and Kurt Hayer of Royal Oak, MI. Lorraine was the fifth of seven children, all of whom predeceased her. Additionally she leaves several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be observed on SATURDAY, JUNE 4, 2016 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 221 Federal Street, Greenfield, MA at 10:00AM. Rev. Fr. Timothy J. Campoli, Pastor, will be the celebrant. Guests are asked to convene directly at the church on Saturday morning. Rites of committal and inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Springfield, VT following cremation. Visiting hours are omitted at the request of the deceased. Expressions of affection in the form of a charitable contribution in Lorraine’s memory are suggested in lieu of flowers to, the American Legion Post #81 Baseball Team, in c/o William Phelps, P.O.
