Loretta Johnson Obituary

Loretta M. (Griswold) Johnson ("Tootie", "Tootsie), 86, died on October 3, 2022. She was the daughter of Myron Griswold and Charlotte (Provost) Griswold. Born on May 10, 1936, she attended Greenfield Public Schools. She married Ronald Johnson on August 29th, 1956.

Tootie was a homemaker, fulfilling her greatest passion, which was taking care of her children. To her, there was nothing more important than family. Many friends and family members relied on her for advice, a sympathetic ear, or simply for her delightful company.

She had a legion of friends who she cared for deeply; one couldn't go anywhere with her without running into someone she knew. For many years up until the pandemic, she and a core group of friends from high school would meet once a month for lunch at various local restaurants for talk and laughter. She was famous for keeping track of everyone's birthdays and sending them a birthday card.

She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, search a word puzzles, and true crime books. Later in life, she became an avid Tom Brady and Patriots fan. Everyone will miss her silly sense of humor and the laughter she brought to so many people's lives. Her partner of 28 years, Leon Hale, predeceased her in 2016.

She leaves her five children: Ronald "Butch" Johnson, Randy Johnson, Rick Johnson and his partner Shari, Tina Williams and her husband Jeremy, and Cindy Browning and her husband Michael; grandchildren Tyler, Ashley, Amber, Caleb, Lilly, Christian, Joseph and Shelbea; great-grandchildren Brielle, Ruby, Hudson, and Rush; brother Ken Griswold and his wife Nancy, sister Charlene Bunk, and sister Beverly Bugbee; she was predeceased by brothers Donald, Robert and Gary. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored their "Auntie Tootie," as well as grand kitties David and Fatty.

Graveside services will take place on Thursday, October 20th, 2022 at Center Cemetery in Bernardston, to be observed at 11:00AM, with Rev. David Neil, Pastor, of the United Church of Bernardston to officiate. Expressions of one's remembrance and affection in memory of Loretta, are preferred in lieu of flowers to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
