Joyce M. Apple

Greenfield, Massachusetts – Joyce M. (Gibas) Apple, 89, died Monday, 1/23/17 at the Holyoke Health Care Center following a period of declining health.
She was born in Greenfield on June 24, 1927, the daughter of Joseph S. and Anna D. (Andrewlevick) Gibas.  Joyce is pre-deceased by her three siblings: Edward Gibas, Mildred Wilkinson and Valerie Duffany.
Joyce graduated from Greenfield High School in 1945.  Prior to her marriage, she worked at the Greenfield Tap and Die.  In later years, she worked at Wilson’s Department Store.  Joyce was a former communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church. She married George F. Apple on Jan, 21, 1950 and was married for 53 years until her husband’s death in 2003.
She leaves a son, James M. and his wife Lenora, of Shelbyville KY; two daughters, Nancy E. Apple of Harwich MA and Barbara J. Apple of Marietta GA; granddaughter Claire R. Fratoni of Charleston, SC and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be observed on Friday, 1/27/17 from the McCarthy Funeral Homes, 36 Bank Row, Greenfield, MA at 10:00AM, with a Catholic Rite of Burial Service to be conducted by Rev. Mr. Joseph Bucci, Deacon of Our Lady of Peace Church, Turners Falls, MA.  Rites of committal and burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Greenfield, MA.  Joyce’s family will receive guests on Friday morning from 9:30AM until the time of the service. 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library, 402 Main Street, Greenfield, MA 01301.
