Today, March 5, 2025, we said goodbye to our son, brother, fiancé, uncle, and best friend. Our hearts are broken; our deep love remains intact.
Jonathan Paul O’Gara was born in Northampton, MA on November 3, 1985 to Paul and Brenda O’Gara. He grew up in the idyllic Village of Montague Center, biking, fishing the Saw Mill River, sledding and skiing in the pastures, and ice skating on the school pond. From an early age, he followed in his dad’s footsteps, enjoying sports and playing football, baseball, and hockey throughout his school years.
Jonathan graduated from Turners Falls High School in 2004 and pursued his interest in the environment, earning a degree from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts in Environmental Design. Always fascinated with the magic of plants and gardening, he embarked on a career in native landscape restoration and landscape design, most recently employed by Whirlwind Fine Garden Design.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing quiet streams and ice-covered lakes, skating, skiing and all things outside, no matter the season. He loved ski trips to the mountains, days at the beach. Those who knew Jonathan will miss his wit, intelligence, debates, and subtle, but unconditional love and support.
Jonathan will join some of his favorite people, including his dad Paul, grandparents Alice and Rollie Campbell, and his Uncle Jack O’Gara. He leaves behind his mom Brenda, sister Abby and her husband Evan Jobst, niece and nephew Shay and Jack Jobst, loving and devoted fiancé Sarah Tuttle, Sarah’s parents Deb and Ray Tuttle, Uncle Gene and Aunt Rita Campbell, Aunt Marcia O’Gara, best friends Charlie and Natassia Edwards, canine kids Winnie and Harvey and many beloved cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Montague on Saturday, March 15 at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: The Friends of the Franklin County Regional Dog Shelter, 10 Sandy Lane Turners Falls, MA 01376.
