Jean M. (Bitzer) Sulda, 94, passed away at Charlene Manor after a short decline in health. Born in Montague City, MA the youngest child of Edward W. and Mary D. (Fritz) Bitzer and attended Montague schools, graduating from TFHS in the Class of 1944.
She was married to Francis J. “Shy” Sulda on June 30, 1956, the man she always loved and pursued until he asked her to marry him. They enjoyed 36 years of marriage until Francis passed in 1992.
Jean and Shy had one son, Edward F. Sulda, however, Ed was not an only child as he was raised alongside the Cadran clan with Jean's best friend and sister-in-law Lovey (Sulda) Cadran.
Jean was an accomplished knitter making beautiful sweaters, mittens, and Christmas stockings for many relatives and friends. She enjoyed playing cards and cribbage, watching sports (especially the Red Sox and Boston Bruins) and game shows, and crossword puzzles.
Jean leaves behind her son Edward and daughter-in-law Marcy (Annear), who was like a daughter to her, as well as her sister-in-law, Imelda Bitzer. Additionally, she leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews including Lill Miskinis, Donna Bitzer, Charleen Sulda, and Diane Tetreault, SSJ, who were very special to Jean. In addition to having been predeceased by her husband Francis, Jean was pre-deceased by her three brothers Harold, Robert, and William Bitzer.
Jean was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church (formerly St. Mary's Parish) in Turners Falls. Jean’s family would like to thank all the staff members of Charlene Manor for the excellent care given to Jean during her time there.
Services in celebration of Jean’s life will be observed on Saturday, February 12, 2022 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial @ 11:00AM at Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh Street, Turners Falls, MA with Rev. Fr. Stanley J. Aksamit, Pastor, as the celebrant. Rites of committal in interment will follow in the Aaron Clark Cemetery, Turners Falls, MA. A visitation will be observed prior to the funeral liturgy from 9:45AM until 10:45AM in the rear vestibule of Our Lady of Peace Church. Masks are required to be worn, in keeping with the Town of Montague Mask mandate in effect. Social distancing is recommended throughout the services in remembrance of Jean. Expressions of affection in Jean’s memory are preferred in lieu of flowers, to Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh Street, Turners Falls, MA 01376. The McCarthy Funeral Homes of Turners Falls and Greenfield, MA, have been entrusted with Jean’s care and arrangements.
