Greenfield, MassachusettsJames Oliver Stanley Graves II, 74, of Lovers Lane died July 8, 2016 at the Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield after a lengthy illness with a rare neurological disorder Multi-System Atrophy.Born in Greenfield on June 23, 1942, the son of James O. S. Graves I and Margaret Whalen. He was a life-long Greenfield resident and 12th generation descendant of Pilgrim Myles Standish. James graduated from Greenfield High School in 1960. His employment history included working at Don Lorenz, Inc., P & M Wood Products, Hardigg Industries, Renovator's Supply and Farren Care Center. He was a member of the Republican Lodge of Masons.An avid hunter and fisherman. James especially enjoyed deer and bird hunting, trout fishing at the Quabbin Reservoir and spending time at “the River”. He was the inventor of the lazy man's fish jigger "Jim's Jigomatic" and was a master fly tier. He enjoyed playing cribbage, was a great conversationalist and kept several hunting dogs over the years.He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judith E. (Winn) Graves, a daughter the Reverend Joanne M. Graves, a son James O. S. Graves III all of Greenfield, a daughter Janice N. Graves of Boston MA and two beloved grandchildren Kyla M. Graves and Evan J. Graves of Northfield. He is also survived by his brother John C. and his wife Carol Graves of Turners Falls and many nieces, nephews and cousins.A memorial service in celebration of Jim’s life will be held at the Robbins Memorial Congregational Church, 55 Munson Street, Greenfield, MA on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 11:00AM, officiated by Rev. Dale Proulx, Pastor. A reception will follow in the church’s fellowship hall. Inurnment will be at the privacy of the family in the Green River Cemetery, Greenfield, MA. Visiting hours will be conducted on Thursday, July 14, 2016 from the McCarthy Funeral Homes, 14 Prospect Street, Turners Falls, MA from 5:00PM until 7:00PM with an Evergreen Service to be conducted by the Republican Masonic Lodge.Flowers are respectfully asked to be omitted, with expressions of affection in the form of a charitable contribution in Jim’s memory suggested to the Buckley Healthcare Center, in c/o the Resident’s Activity Fund, 95 Laurel Street, Greenfield, MA 01301 or to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
