Irene Giarusso Obituary

The family of Irene Giarusso is sad to announce her peaceful passing on June 21, 2024.  She resided at the Arbors in Greenfield, MA for the past 8 years and was 98 years old. Prior to her move to the Arbors, she lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she enjoyed spending time with her sister and niece.

She was born in Cambridge, MA on September 23, 1925. She grew up in Oakham, MA and made her home in Barre, MA for 61 years with her husband Ralph and daughters Sharon, Michele and Marcia.

She graduated from Barre High School and Becker College.  She worked for the MA Department of Welfare in Social Services until her retirement.

In her past time, she loved playing bingo, working on her crossword puzzles and visiting a casino now and then.

She and Ralph took pleasure in enjoying many years following Polka bands; even going on several cruises with the Jimmy Sturr band.

Her family was of utmost importance to her, she was predeceased by her husband Ralph along with her parents John and Josephine Dogul and siblings Anthony and Henry Dogul, Helen Gardner, Francis Lilly and Ruth McIntire.

She leaves her beloved daughters Sharon Dieter of Mt Pleasant, S.C., Michele Giarusso of Leyden, MA and Marcia Attea of Longmont, CO.

She is also survived by her 8 cherished grandchildren Seth Dieter, Jennah Dieter, Courtney Woodard, Tyler Nielsen, Daniel Devine, Andrew Attea, Taylor Attea, Peter Attea and 7 great grandchildren who fondly called her “GiGi”.

She enjoyed her time at the Arbors and the family wishes to thank them for all the love, care and support they provided as well as Pioneer Valley Hospice.

She will join her husband Ralph at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bourne, MA. 

There will be a memorial service at the convenience of the family.
