Greenfield, MassachusettsHelen R. (Urgiel) Schneider, 79, of formerly of 9 Monroe Avenue, passed peacefully on Monday, November 14, 2016 at the Charlene Manor Extended Care nursing facility, following a period of declining health.A native of the Town of Montague, Helen was born on October 13, 1937 to Alexander V. Urgiel and Alice (Masek) Urgiel. She attended Gill and Montague Public Schools, and was a graduate of Turners Falls High School in the Class of 1955. She furthered her education by attending the former Franklin County Public Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in the Class of 1958 and obtained her licensure as a Registered Nurse.She married Norman H. Schneider, on November 8, 1958 in the former St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church in Turners Falls, MA. They worked side by side for many years in the operation of their family business, the former E. A. Hall Printing Co., retiring in 1999. They celebrated 46 years of marriage prior to his passing in September of 2004.Helen was devoted to her family, in particular to her late husband, their children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, photography and traveling. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, Greenfield, MA.She is lovingly remembered by her children: Son: Norman H. Schneider and his companion, Patricia Reneris of Greenfield, MA. Daughters: Holly E. Malinowski of Woodville, ME and her former husband Joe, of Hadley, MA, and Merrilee E. Kane of Gill, MA and her former husband Tom, of Greenfield, MA. Additionally, Helen leaves her adoring grandchildren: Jarrod of Woodville, ME and Ashleigh of Springfield, MA and Aja of NYC, New York and Lily, of Ashville, NC. Helen will be remembered with great affection by her siblings: Rudy F. Urgiel and his wife Rose, of Gill, MA; “Sandy” Urgiel and his wife Penny, of Gill, MA, and Norine Simmons of Grand Rapids, Michigan, in addition to several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews and cousins. In keeping with Helen’s requests, a private graveside service will be observed with burial in the Springdale Cemetery, Turners Falls, MA, with Rev. Fr. Timothy J. Campoli, Pastor of Blessed Sacrament Church to officiate. Visiting hours are omitted. Expressions of affection in the form of a charitable donation in Helen’s memory, are suggested in lieu of flowers to the Greenfield Community College Nursing Program, in c/o Nancy Craig-Williams, Ph.D., MS, RN-Program Director, One College Drive, Room E120A, Greenfield, MA 01301-9739 or to Blessed Sacrament Church, 182 High Street, Greenfield, MA 01301 or at Helen’s suggestion, purchase a plant for one’s own enjoyment in celebration of her life.
