Hazel F. Childs
Obituary
Hazel Tirrell Childs, age 102, passed away on January 10, 2022 at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield, MA. She had been a resident there since 2011.
Born in Greenfield, MA on September 5, 1919, she was the youngest daughter of the late Mabel Howes Tirrell and Fred William Tirrell. Hazel was raised in Greenfield, MA and she graduated from Greenfield High School. On January 23, 1946, she married Robert D. Childs, Sr. from Deerfield, MA. She was employed by the former Howard Johnson’s Motor Lodge for many years. Hazel resided in Greenfield her entire life. She enjoyed walking and maintaining her yard at her house on Norwood Street that was built by her husband.
Hazel was predeceased by her husband Robert D. Childs, Sr., her son Robert D. Childs, Jr. and her sisters Dorothy Bliss, Alma Hill and Beth Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith Childs Tilton and her husband William of Atkinson, NH, her daughter-in-law Debby Childs of Conway, MA, three grandsons, Aaron W. Tilton and his wife Elizabeth of Plaistow, NH; Andrew Childs and Kristen Binder of Tuscarora, MD and Taylor and Liz Donaldson Childs of New York City. She also leaves behind three great-grandsons Leland Tilton, Emmett Tilton, Rowan Davis Childs and two great-granddaughters Kayla Snell and Emma Czarnionka. Hazel also leaves behind three great-great-granddaughters Ava Snell, Kinsley Collier and Dakota Collier. In addition, she leaves her niece Shelly Bliss, and her three nephews Jonathan Childs, Kenneth Childs and Christopher Childs.

At Hazel’s request there are no calling hours or services. She was laid to rest privately, with her husband Robert in the Green River Cemetery, Greenfield, MA
