Montague, Massachusetts Gilbert A. “Gib” Boulden, 69, a resident of 55 North Taylor Hill Road, died peacefully at home on Friday, August 24, 2018 in the loving care of his family, following a period of declining health.Gib was born in Greenfield, MA, on February 13, 1949, to George A. Boulden, Jr., and Barbara E. (Rose) Boulden of Sunderland, MA. He attended Sunderland Public Schools and was a graduate of Frontier Regional High School in the Class of 1967. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Army National Guard.In his youth, Gib could be found working extensively on the family farm in Sunderland, sugaring in season, tending the dairy herd, bailing hay, and doing daily chores. He held a special fondness for Mt. Toby, where he could be found traversing the many trails and the summit during his youth. He worked as a carpenter for John Fuller Custom Homes and later, Lea & Deane Builders. Gib accepted a position at the Mohawk Trout Hatchery in Sunderland, where he worked for several years. Gib retired in 2016 from the Farren Care Center where he worked in the maintenance department for 14 years.Gib enjoyed hunting and snowmobiling and trips to Cape Cod with his family. In later years, he and his wife Linda enjoyed special trips with their grandchildren to Wells, Maine. Gib also enjoyed following NASCAR and supported several local racing teams. He was a former member of the Montague Center Volunteer Fire Department, and helped in the maintenance of the North Sunderland CemeteryHe married the former Linda Cronen on September 27, 1969 in Montague, MA. In addition to his loving wife of nearly 49 years, he is remembered with love by his children: Laurie J. Pichette and her husband Richard; Sheri M. Leh and her husband Dave; and Gary A. Boulden; as well as his devoted grandchildren: Michelle Leh, Jonathon Pichette and Kimberly Pichette. Additionally, he leaves his mother Barbara E. Boulden and his siblings: Carol Kushi and her husband Kenneth Diane Zak and her husband, Mike, and his brother-in-law William Klaus. He also leaves many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins who all had a special part in Gib’s life. He was predeceased by his sister Susan Boulden Klaus in 2013, as well as by his father George A. Boulden, Jr., in 2015.In keeping with Gib’s request for simplicity, there are no formal services or visiting hours. A private burial will be observed in the North Sunderland Cemetery. Gib’s family invites friends and familyto join them on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at the Schuetzen Verein in Gill from 4PM until 7PM, for an informal social gathering in his memory.
