Northfield, MassachusettsGeorge N. Terault, 79, died Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, MA following a period of declining health.He was born on February 11, 1937, to Leon Joseph Terault and Romona Pearl Preston in Hanover, NH. George was raised in Belchertown, MA where he attended local public schools. Later in life, he went on to further his education at Greenfield Community College obtaining an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts.George served his country honorably in the Air Force as an Airman 3rd Class during Korea from 1954 - 1958 and then re-enlisted with the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1976, serving in Vietnam as a Specialist First Class. He ended his military career with retirement on July 31, 1976. He received many honors during his tours of service including the Korean Defense Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. After separation from the military, George went to work for Kollmorgen in Northampton, MA for 15 years as a logistics engineer, until his second retirement in1991.George married the former Barbara A. Stone on June 20, 1962 in Greenfield, MA. This year, they celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. They were snowbirds together…George and Barb loved to winter in Arizona. He enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing (both freshwater and saltwater) and enjoyed playing golf. George loved to putter and tinker around his house and was a motorcycle enthusiast – riding a Honda Goldwing and a Harley Davidson. As a private pilot for several years, he owned his own plane, a Cessna 240.George was a member of many fraternal and veteran’s organizations including VFW Post 9874 of Northfield, Bernardston Vet’s Club, American Legion of Brattleboro, VT, Marine Corps League of Bernardston, also the Military Order of Carabao and a former, long-time member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Greenfield and the Montague Elks – BPOE#2521.In addition to his loving wife Barbara, he leaves his children to remember him with great love and affection: Peter A. Terault and his wife, Terri, of Eatonville, WA; Rick Terault and his wife, Shelly, of Montague, MA; Theresa A. Terault of Keene, NH and John L. Terault and his wife, Tracie, of Turners Falls, MA. He also leaves (5) adoring grandchildren: Peter, Nathen, Erica, Kelly and Emily along with (4) great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.George also leaves his brothers and sisters: Tom N. Terault and his wife, Betty, of Pelham, MA; Ed “Pepere” Terault of Millers Falls, MA; Lillian M. Honeysett of Belchertown, MA and Cecilia M. Aldrich and her husband, Tim, of St. Augustine, FL. He was pre-deceased by his siblings Ned, Roger and Mary.Funeral services in celebration of George’s life will be on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 1:30PM from the graveside at Riverside Cemetery in Gill, MA, with the Rev. Stanley J. Aksamit, Pastor of Our Lady of Peace Church of Turners Falls, MA officiating. Military honors will be observed with members of the 54th Massachusetts Army National Guard in attendance, assisted by the VFW Post #9874 of Northfield, MA who will provide a firing detail. Visiting hours are omitted. Flowers are respectfully asked to be omitted, with expressions of affection in the form of a charitable contribution preferred in George’s memory, to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 7 Mill Brook Road, P.O.
