Greenfield, MassachusettsGeorge David Hague, 92, a resident of 28A Elm Terrace Apartments, passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the Buckley Health Care Center, 95 Laurel Street, Greenfield, following a period of failing health. A native of Brookline, MA, he was born on April 7, 1926 to Helen L. (Summers) and Clifford W. Hague and was educated in local public schools. David as he preferred to be called, answered the call to duty during WWII by enlisting in the USN on his eighteenth birthday on April 7, 1944. He served honorably as an Aviation Radioman 3rd Class and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and the American Theater Medal. He was discharged from duty on June 17, 1946.
Upon his return to civilian life, David worked primarily in the automotive repair industry, as a body man for several local body shops and dealerships, including the former Don Lorenz Buick-Cadillac dealership in Greenfield prior to his retirement. In his leisure time, he enjoyed building scratch-built radio controlled model aircraft and was a member of Franklin County Remote Controlled Model Club of Turners Falls, MA for many years. David also enjoyed crafting wooden model cars and trucks from the 1930's era, utilizing his mechanical knowledge in building mini bikes for his children and was a motorcycle enthusiast. He also enjoyed picnics with his family, boating and fresh water fishing. David enjoyed playing his base electric guitar, and could always be found jamming as an original member of the Colt 45 band - well known for their "picking and singing" style of music.
He married the former Shirley M. Robbins in Greenfield, MA celebrating over 46 years of devotion and marriage to one another, prior to her passing in March of 2008. He leaves his children: Michael Hague of NH; Helen Ratcliff of Hornell, NY; Clifford Hague and Lawrence Hague of Rochester, NY; LuAnne Kinney (Don) of Rochester, NY; David Robbins, of Greenfield, MA; Kenneth "Ken" Hague (Nicole) of Turners Falls, MA; Carol Gillespie (Eric) of West Palm Beach, FL; Nancy Laprade of Greenfield, MA; Richard Hague of Greenfield, MA and Tracy Hague of Turners Falls, MA. Additionally, he leaves 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Shirley and several siblings.
In keeping with David's request for simplicity, he will be cremated, to be followed by a graveside service to be observed at the Green River Cemetery, located off Wisdom Way, Greenfield, MA on Saturday, December 8th, 2018 at 10:00AM. Remembrances prepared by David's family will be shared. Military honors will be conducted, with a detachment of the USN in attendance, assisted by the Northfield VFW Post 9874 who will provide a firing detail. Visiting hours are omitted. At David's family's request, flowers are respectfully asked to be omitted.
