George Kimball Farr II, 66, of 54 Eleventh Street, Turners Falls, died Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Baystate Franklin Medical Center, Greenfield, MA, following having been stricken at the home of his sister earlier in the day.
He was born in Montague, MA, on November 22, 1950 to Alberta G. (Girard) Farr and Kimball D. Farr and resided with his family in Greenfield, MA. He attended Greenfield Public Schools and graduated from the former Greenfield Vocational School in the Class of 1970.
George enlisted in the USAF on September 17, 1970 and served honorably with the 3902 SAC (Strategic Air Command) and attained the rank of Sgt.  He was discharged from active duty on April 22, 1975.  George continued to serve his country, as a member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard, Co. B, Greenfield, MA, retiring with over 20 years of service.
Upon his return from military life, he accepted a position as a machinist with the former Bendix Corporation. Later, he was a custodian in the physical plant of Northfield Mt. Hermon School, retiring in 2012.  George held several part-time custodial/maintenance positions following his retirement that included the Shea Theatre in Turners Falls, MA and most recently, with the YMCA of Greenfield and Camp Apex in Shelburne Falls, MA.   A devout communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church in Turners Falls, he participated in parish life as a minister of hospitality, usher and collector. George was a volunteer for the Franklin County Community Meals Program for many years at the former meal site at Holy Trinity Church.
A NASCAR fan, he could be found glued to the annual Daytona 500 race every spring.  He was a passionate Civil War enthusiast and made history come alive as a period re-enactor with the 9th Battery, Massachusetts Light Artillery, Northampton, MA as a certified cannoneer.  George was always generous with his time and talent, lending a hand to all who needed one.  He will be remembered for his generous and kind nature.
He is lovingly remembered by his sister: Arlene B. Farr and her wife, Catherine Marcum of Greenfield, MA, as well as by his adoring (and favorite) niece, Jasmine Farr-Marcum of Turners Falls, MA.  Additionally, he leaves a loving circle of friends to cherish his memory.
