Sunderland, MassachusettsGeorge A. Boulden, Jr., 88, of 369 Montague Road, passed peacefully on Thursday morning, April 16, 2015 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family, following a period of declining health.A native of Leverett, MA he was born on February 16, 1927 to George A. Boulden, Sr. and Earla Mae (Ingraham) Boulden. He was educated in Montague Public Schools, graduating from Turners Falls High School in the Class of 1945. Some years later, George attended Greenfield Community College, where he attended classes to obtain his certification as a real estate broker. George was employed for 38 years by Warner Brothers, Inc. in Sunderland, MA from 1954 to his retirement in 1992, where he was a mechanic, head mechanic, equipment dispatcher and lastly as a purchasing agent. He was also the owner of Boulden Real Estate for several years.Civic minded, George was active in the community in numerous ways. He was a member of the Sunderland Fire Department as volunteer firefighter, as well as a reserve officer for the Sunderland Police Department from 1954-1960. He served the Town of Sunderland as a Civic Defense volunteer for many years and was on the Sunderland Elementary School Committee and Frontier Regional High School Committee from 1964-1971. He was a member of the Sunderland Park Committee from 1965-1966 and was an integral member of the 250th Anniversary & Parade Committee, where he served as the Master of Ceremonies. George also served on the Swampfield Historical Society and the Historical Committee for the Town of Sunderland. George was a former trustee of the North Sunderland Cemetery Association. He was a member of the 1st Congregational Church of Sunderland, where he was a trustee and moderator. George served as member of the deaconate, building committee and the endowment committee. He was smitten by the former Barbara E. Rose and they were married in the 1st Congregational Church on August 5, 1945 by Rev. William Crawford.George is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Barbara, of nearly 70 years, as well as their children: Carol Kushi and her husband Kenneth; Gilbert “Gib” Boulden and his wife Linda; son-in-law William Klaus, Jr., husband of their late daughter Susan who predeceased her father in 2013; Diane Zak and her husband Michael. Additionally he leaves 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, his sister Doris Rose and her husband Clarence and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his sister Eleanor Sawin. Funeral services in celebration of George’s life and many gifts will be observed on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 from the 1st Congregational Church of Sunderland, 91 South Main Street, Sunderland, MA at 10:00AM. Officiating will be Rev. Barbara Seamon, Pastor, assisted by Rev. Verne Williams, Pastor of the Congregation of Grace Church, Turners Falls, MA. Rites of committal will follow in the North Sunderland Cemetery located on Route 47 North of the center of the village. The Boulden family will receive guests on Monday evening, from the McCarthy Funeral Home, 14 Prospect Street, Turners Falls, MA from 5:00PM until 7:00PM.Expressions of affection are recommended in lieu of flowers in George’s memory, to either the 1st Congregational Church of Sunderland, Attn: Bell Choir, P.O.
