Millers Falls, Massachusetts
Elmer E. Towne, 87, of Millers Falls and formerly a longtime resident of Northfield, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at the Buckley Health Care Center, Greenfield, MA following a period of declining health.
He was born in Leverett, MA on April 20, 1928, the son of Henry and Ruth (Briggs) Towne.  He was educated in Leverett Public Schools.  Elmer was a steam fitter for Union #104 for many years. He served in the Korean Conflict in the Army at Landstuhl Medical Center in Germany from 1950-1952 as an ambulance driver and medic.
Elmer was a lifelong Red Sox fan, loved animals and working on his farm.
He was a devoted and loving husband of 60 years to Veona C. (Barnes) Towne. Elmer loved his family.  Preceding him was his step-mother, Lina (Williams) Towne and his sister, Evelyn (Towne) Slobody.  He is remembered by his sisters: Lill (Towne) Black, Eunice (Towne) Ball and Hilda (Towne) (Carey) Williams and step-brothers Wayne and Cliff LaClaire and a step-sister Alma Russo and many nieces and nephews.
Elmer leaves his children: Venna and husband Craig Parker, Dustin and wife Janice (Bassett) Towne, Duane and wife Vanessa (Walton) Towne, and Ellen Kingsbury and fiancé Frank Gromaski.  He also leaves eight grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  Services will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the North Leverett Baptist Church, 70 North Leverett Road, Leverett, MA, with Rev. Verne Williams, Pastor of the Congregation of Grace Church of Turners Falls to officiate at 11:00AM.  A visiting hour will be observed from 10:00AM until the time of the service in the sanctuary of the church. Rites of committal will follow in the Plainview Cemetery, North Leverett, MA with military honors to be observed. Members of the 54th Massachusetts Army National Guard will be in attendance, assisted by the Hale-Clapp VFW Post #3295 of South Deerfield, MA. 
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter, 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
