Eleanor Weeks Obituary

Greenfield, Massachusetts
Eleanor Blanche (Ingraham) Weeks, 99, formerly of 36 Leyden Road and a resident of the Quabbin Valley Healthcare Center, 821 Daniel Shays Hwy, Athol, MA, died Tuesday evening, September 11, 2018, ten days prior to her 100th birthday, following a period of declining health.

She was born on September 21, 1918 in Greenfield, MA, to Raymond C. Ingraham and Blanche A. (Newcomb) Ingraham. Eleanor attended Greenfield Public Schools, graduating from GHS in the Class of 1936. She studied music under a Coleman Scholarship at the Stoneleigh School and furthered her musical studies by attending Julliard in New York City, NY and Smith College in Northampton, MA. She taught piano for over forty six years, to students from Greenfield and the surrounding communities.

Ellie worked part-time at the subscription office at the former Franklin County Public Hospital, Greenfield, MA from 1942 to 1948. She also worked part-time for the Production Machine Company, as an assistant bookkeeper from 1951 to 1961. Later, she worked part-time for her brother Dr. Ingraham and Dr. Haggett from 1964-1971.

Ellie married W. Leon Weeks, Jr., in 1967 and he predeceased her in January of 2001. She was a member of the Pioneer Valley Symphony, where she played second violin. She was the accompanist for the Women’s Club chorus and the Mohawk Male chorus for many years. She and her late husband, traveled extensively overseas, throughout the United States and Canada via trailer camping, which was a large part of their recreational life. She spent many hours helping her husband plan his many projects, by typing and using a computer. They both enjoyed playing bridge and were active in the Franklin County Camera Club. She was a gourmet cook and was a past member of the Outing Club. She served on numerous occasions, as the organist at the First Congregational Church and Christian Science Church.

Survivors include her step-son: Leonard Weeks and his wife, Susan, of Greenfield, MA; her step-daughter Charlotte Brodie and her husband, Shane, of Underhill, VT. Additionally she leaves three grandsons: Jesse, Jarad and Taran Weeks, as well as three nieces: Jaimye Sue Ingraham of Greenfield, MA, and her former husband David Adie and their children, Devon and Aurie; Merlene Ingraham of Boston, MA and Colleen Rae Letourneau and her husband Craig of Greenfield, MA and their son Christopher Pappademas, as well as her sister-in-law, Helen Ingraham, wife of the late Dr. Merle Ingraham. Additionally, Ellie is lovingly remembered by her great grandchildren Cameron and Logan Weeks. She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Blanche (Newcomb) Ingraham, her beloved husband Wilder L. “Leon” Weeks and her loving brother Dr. Merle Ingraham, as well as by her sister-in-law, Janice Weeks.
In keeping with Ellie’s request for simplicity, a private graveside service for the intimacy of her beloved family, will take place at the Green River Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband Leon. Rev. Corey Sanderson, Pastor, of the Second Congregational Church will officiate. As music was significant in Ellie’s life, her grandson Jarad will provide a musical tribute to his grandmother on bagpipes and will be joined by his girlfriend Zoe Darrow on the fiddle. Visiting hours are omitted. Expressions of affection in the form of a charitable donation in Ellie’s memory are preferred in lieu of flowers to, the Pioneer Valley Symphony, 91 Main Street, Greenfield, MA 01301 or to the Perkins Braille & Talking Book Library and sent to: 175 North Beacon St., Watertown, MA 02472.
