Greenfield, Massachusetts
Eleanor M. (Kecy) Liston, 95, a resident of 8A Elm Terrace Apartments, died Friday morning, October 5, 2018 at home, following a period of declining health.

She was born on August 25, 1923 in Fitchburg, MA to Mary (Ford) and William Kecy and attended local schools. She married Edward William Liston, on September 3, 1945 in Holy Trinity Church, Greenfield, MA. They resided in Greenfield, MA and were blessed with five children.

Eleanor worked for a period of time for the former Franklin Nursing Home, Greenfield, MA in the housekeeping department. She was a dedicated volunteer at Goodwill Industries for many years. Eleanor was a former communicant of Holy Trinity Church, as age and infirmities no longer allowed her to attend. As a result, she became a devotee of watching EWTN on television, participating in the sacraments of the Liturgy of the Word on a daily basis.

Eleanor enjoyed many pursuits that included, movie watching and collecting movies of all genres, crossword puzzles, reading and shopping for books at Barnes & Noble, traveling in particular, visiting family in Fitchburg and Burlington, VT. She liked arts and crafts, collected photographs and year books, attended motocross events with her son Daniel, walked extensively in her younger years, visited Foster’s Supermarket on a regular basis. Eleanor was an avid Rail Road enthusiast, a member of the Amherst Railway Society and frequent visitor to the society’s railroad model show at the Better Living Center at the Big E, West Springfield, MA each year with her son Gary.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: William Liston, of Enfield, CT; Maureen C. Martin and her husband Butch, of Greenfield, MA; Gary F. Liston and his wife Patty, of Greenfield, MA; Daniel E. Liston of Greenfield, MA and Betsy Shafer and her husband Kenneth, of Hinsdale, NH. Additionally, she leaves her adoring grandchildren: Arthur E. Martin, Jr., Michelle Martin, Christopher Shafer and Arielle Phillips, along with her grand grandchildren Eric and Andrew Schmidt. Eleanor is also remembered with affection by her several nieces and nephews, in particular her niece Kathy Gordon and her husband John, of Panama City Beach, FL., as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Eleanor was predeceased by her beloved parents, Mary and William Kecy, by her sister June Lévesque and by her brothers Douglas Kecy, (US Army) who served honorably during WWII with “Merrill’s Marauders” in the Indonesia, China, Burma campaign, as well as William Kecy (USN) who made the supreme sacrifice while serving aboard the USS Quincy, (Heavy Cruiser) which saw service in the Pacific Theatre and was sunk during the battle of Savo Island. Additionally, she was predeceased by her husband of nearly 65 years, Edward W. Liston in 2010 and by her daughter-in-law, Lisa Liston, wife of Daniel Liston in 2009.
In keeping with Eleanor’s requests for simplicity, there will be no visiting hours. Graveside services and inurnment, will be observed on TUESDAY, October 16. 2018 at 10:00AM at Calvary Cemetery, Wisdom Way, Greenfield, MA, with Rev. Fr. Stanley J.
