Edward Francis Massey

Edward “Ed” Francis Massey, 64, of 259 Millers Falls Road in the Turners Falls section of the Town of Montague, died Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, MA, following having been taken ill at home earlier in the day.
He was born on May 15, 1952 in Northampton, MA to Evelyn Mae (Debarge) Massey and Luther Albert Massey, Sr.  He was educated in Deerfield Public Schools and Greenfield Public Schools, graduating from GHS in the Class of 1970.
Edward enlisted in the USA on January 17, 1972 and served honorably in Europe during the Vietnam War with the 73^rd Signal Battalion HQ, of the 5^th Signal Command, attaining the rank of Specialist 4^th Class and was discharged from active duty on January 9, 1975. 
Upon his return from military service, he accepted a position with Valley Steel Stamp, where he was a machinist, working most recently in the hardening department as a heat treater.  Edward enjoyed golfing, television watching, crossword puzzles, spinning stories and telling jokes and the privacy of his home.  He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots and was a frequent supporter of the Massachusetts State Lottery.
He is lovingly remembered by his two brothers and their spouses:  Luther A. “Skip” Massey, Jr., and his wife Patricia of Hinsdale, NH and William H. “Bill” Massey and his wife Cecile, of Greenfield, MA, as well as several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.  He was predeceased by his mother Evelyn in 1986, by his father Luther in 1987 and by his brother Robert in 1998. 
In keeping with Edward’s request for simplicity, there will be no formal services or visiting hours.  He will be laid to rest with his family in the Spring Grove Cemetery, Northampton, MA following cremation at the privacy of his family.  Expressions of affection in the form of a charitable contribution in his memory are suggested to Friends of the Franklin County Regional Dog Shelter, 10 Sandy Lane, Turners Falls, MA 01376.
