Dorothy Benedetti Obituary

Dorothy (Dottie) Benedetti, 76 of Bernardston MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 9th surrounded by her family.

She was born in Greenfield on June 21, 1949 to Winifred and Phillip Payant. Raised by Winifred and step-father Adam Sobiech, she was the second oldest of 6 children.

Dottie attended Greenfield schools, and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1967.

In 1969, Dottie married Robert Benedetti and the couple raised 3 children in their Greenfield home. Dottie was an avid ten pin bowler for 30 years, and was a past president of the Franklin County Women’s Bowling Association. She participated in many local, state, and national tournaments.

Dottie also enjoyed crafts and craft shows, making jewelry, and other crafts to sell at local craft shows in her retirement. But her favorite hobby was her children and grandchildren. She was a fixture at their sporting events and school functions, and loved supporting all of their interests and activities. Dottie was also a strong supporter of local charities and service networks, volunteering her time to help others in need.

Dottie worked for Phoenix Insurance Company in Greenfield, taking early retirement in 2001 when the Greenfield office was closed. She then spent 10 years with Baystate Franklin Medical Center, retiring in 2011.

After taking time for a career and raising a family, Dottie returned to school at Greenfield Community College and received her Associates degree in Liberal Arts in 2001 at the age of 51, majoring in Human Services.

Dottie was predeceased by her parents, brother Anthony Sobiech, sister Rose (Jack) Luippold, and sister Kathleen Heig.

She leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Robert Benedetti of Bernardston, sons Robert Jr of Bernardston and Michael (Sherri) of Greenfield, daughter Amy of Bernardston, sisters Mary (Michael) Sullivan of Hatfield MA and Margaret (James) Girard of South Yarmouth MA, grandchildren Ashley (Joshua) and Tony Benedetti of Greenfield; Kyle (Marcy) and Jakob (Theresa) Conway of Greenfield; Mya, Nicholas, and Gianna Shattuck of Bernardston; and two great grandsons, Bryce and Henry Conway of Greenfield. She also leaves behind four nephews, James and Ryan Sullivan, and Adam and Patrick Luippold.

Services will be held on June 22, 2026, with calling hours from 9am to 10:15am at McCarthy Funeral Home in Greenfield, followed by a funeral Mass at Holy Trinity Parish in Greenfield at 11am, with burial to follow.
