Donald Duprey Obituary

Donald F. Duprey, 81, of Greenfield MA, passed away peacefully on Feb 3rd, 2025. Born on February 24, 1943, to the late Gladys Rossmeisl (Duprey) Cowan, and Frederick Duprey, Donald was a true family man who loved his own like no other. As a child, Donald loved weekly trips to the local dump with his dad. He also loved eating French fries at the HUB Restaurant, while waiting for his grandmother to finish at the hair salon. Donald spent many years serving as an altar boy, and was an active cub scout participant for Troop 69 of Holy Trinity School. After his fathers passing, Kip and Mr. Miskinis took Donald under their wing to ensure he had a father figure to do cub scout activities with. Eventually Donald went on to become a 3rd Degree Member of The Knights of Columbus, Council 133 of Greenfield MA. Donald attended Holy Trinity Catholic School where he met his future wife, Eileen Deveney. Donald went on to attend Greenfield High School, from which he graduated in 1961. After graduating High School, Donald attended Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, where he studied Pharmaceutical Science for 5 years – obtaining his Bachelor's Degree in 1967. Following his graduation from Mass College of Pharmacy, Donald married Eileen, and settled in Melrose MA where they spent a few short years. Eventually the couple settled in Greenfield MA to be close to family.

Donald was the most loving and caring man, who loved all he knew unconditionally and without reservation. Donald worked at several independent local pharmacies, and briefly co-owned a pharmacy with his brother Dick Duprey, until Dicks untimely passing in 1979. Following the death of his brother, Donald went to work for the many chain pharmacies that now existed. He worked for Brooks, CVS, Walmart, and his favorite and most loved time at Chicopee Medical West/Riverbend. He also spent several years selling insurance for Prudential. The relationship Donald built with his customers over the years, was very profound. He loved helping others, and was so very good at it.

The things that brought Donald the most joy in recent years, were learning how to use Facebook and social media. He enjoyed getting to interact with all those that he loved. He especially enjoyed writing Birthday greetings and best wishes for people's accomplishments. He loved to "follow along", keeping up with all his relatives and friends, near and far. His ultimate joy was his Grandchildren. He lived for them and was all of their biggest support.

Survivors include his two daughters, Ellen LaValley and her husband David of Greenfield, a daughter Maura Babineau, and her husband Michael of Greenfield, four grandchildren, Gracelyn Tatta of Worcester, Kiara Tatta of Greenfield, and Ella and DJ Babineau, both of Greenfield. Donald also leaves several cherished nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles. Donald was pre-deceased by his father Frederick Duprey (1952), his step father Earl Cowan (1988), a brother Richard Duprey (1979), and his mother Gladys Cowan (1994).

In accordance with Donald's wishes, a small private family memorial will take place in the Spring, with interment to take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation, @ www.michaeljfox.org.
