Deerfield, MassachusettsDiane Dorthy Worden (Stone) Otto 76, passed away at home into the loving arms of our lord with her beloved husband and family members present on the stormy powerless evening of November 26, 2014. She was born 4-10-38 at the Franklin County Public Hospital. She was pre-deceased by her parents John R. Sr. and Dorthy (Sutcliffe) Stone of Gill Mass.Diane grew up on Hope St. in Greenfield, she enjoyed horseback riding and the art of ceramics. While attending school in Greenfield, Diane received awards for her love of swimming and ice skating. While in school Diane worked for a short time at the age of 15 for the Farren Hospital in Montague. She then worked with her mother Dorthy at the 5&10 soda fountain on Main St. in Greenfield. She then worked at the Shady Glen for 3 years, then waitressed at Carl’s Restaurant on Main St. in Greenfield. Diane then worked at the Greenfield Country Club in Greenfield with her mother Dorthy who was a cook and she waitressed with her best friend Ellen (Duncan) Thompkins who is still her best friend today. Leaving the Country Club Diane worked for Meals on Wheels in the Deerfield, Conway, Sunderland and Whately area for 13 years making many friends along the way.Later in life Diane worked at the J.C. Penney Co. on Main St. in Greenfield in the Catalog Department. She was so well liked at her job Diane received many promotions and becoming Sales Representative and Manager of her department. When J.C. Penney closed in Greenfield, she continued working for the J.C. Penney at the Hadley Mall. There she managed the Catalog Department. Diane was employed with J.C. Penney for 21 years. She developed many close relationships with her co-workers and customers.Diane was dedicated and devoted to her family and friends, they always came first. Diane’s favorite memories were spent with her children and husband. She loved taking her summer vacations with her family to Salisbury Beach, starting with tents, then to a camper and then with the family R.V. While camping many of her family members and their children would camp at the same time at different camp sites making every vacation extra special. She also enjoyed taking the R.V. to Townsend, Vt. camping with her beloved husband.Diane loved the ocean, mountains, with many seasonal flowers. Diane loved watching the squirrels and birds as they ate their special treats her and her husband would buy for the wildlife animals they loved.Having many animals she loved throughout her life, she loved her Scottish Terriers and CC her cat.Diane read voraciously many books. In the evenings she enjoyed watching television with her husband Don or playing games on her computer.Every Thursday Diane would cook a special meal for her family members followed by playing cards and dice games. Every Tuesday evening she played cards and dice games with her sisters and friends, rotating to each of their homes, making delicious snacks for their game night.With her husband at her side, she enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s school activities and all the events they were involved with.Sunday night’s special dinners were shared with family members as they rotated to each other’s homes also to enjoy card and dice games which she loved to do.Every holiday, every month Diane would make extra special, cooking and decorating with all the trimmings, always having the candy dishes full for her family and friends.Christmas was one of her favorite holidays. She would take so much time looking for the perfect gifts for all she gave to. Diane and her husband collected the Dickens Village once set up, how beautiful to look at, so many different villages with many pieces, houses, town halls, railroads, skating ponds, fire station, post offices etc., also many people statues, animals, such a beautiful addition for holiday cheer. Literally the villages could cover 3-4 banquet tables to display all the beautiful villages. Always a wonderful Christmas with very large Christmas trees and many trimmings. She would make about 10-12 pies for the holidays, fudge and a very special meal to celebrate Christmas.Birthdays for her family she would read almost every card at the store until she found the perfect card along with the perfect special gift.With so many family members and friends across the states, she never had harsh words to say about anyone. She always set uncomfortable situations aside, making the best of every moment and being at her best for her life and her loved ones. Diane was very considerate with her feelings, her kindness and love overflowed to all who knew her and loved her. Diane was truly a blessed soul, she was a beautiful, strong, loving, kind, honest, understanding beloved daughter, wife, mother and friend. Diane touched the hearts of everyone she met. Diane was a very special true gift to all. Her family was the world to her. She enjoyed traveling throughout the years with her husband Don to many places throughout the United States.Besides her beloved husband Don, survivors are daughters Anita and Tanya Otto, Sandra Collazo (Hector) and son Benjamin Otto Jr. (Nancy). There are also 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren and 1step great grandchild. There are also several brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews.Special thanks to Hospice for the loving care and family support given to Diane and the family during this difficult time.Services will be held at McCarthy Funeral Home, 14 Prospect Street, Turners Falls, MA (Please note the change from last week's service location) on Friday, December 12, 2014, at 11:00AM, with Msgr. Ronald G. Yargeau, Pastor of Holy Trinity Church to offer the Catholic Rite of Burial Service and committal prayers. The prayer service will be followed by remembrances of Diane, to be shared by family and friends. Vocalist Alana Martineau, will perform several hymns as a part of the remembrance service. Rites of committal and inurnment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Gill, MA, and will be private in nature for Diane’s family only. A reception will be announced following the services at the funeral home, for those who wish to gather with Diane’s family following the private burial services. The Worden family will receive guests on Friday morning, from 9:00 until the time of the services.
