Greenfield, MassachusettsDerek Kemp “Kempy” Howe, 64, of 6 Keegan Lane, died Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at home, following a period of declining health. He was born in Greenfield, MA on July 9, 1950, the son of William S. Howe, Jr., and Karolyn A. (Kemp) Howe. He was educated in Greenfield Public Schools and a graduate of Greenfield High School. He attended Greenfield Community College and the American Institute of Banking in Chicago, Illinois.An avid fan of baseball, he was in his youth a member of the Greenfield Minor League and was a team mate with his brother Bill, on the Turnbull’s Restaurant team for several years. He loved music, in particular the Beatles. He enjoyed coin collecting, playing guitar and vacations on Cape Cod. He was a huge New England Patriots fan and was a member of the Franklin County Boat Club. He leaves his brother, William S. Howe, III, of San Diego, CA; his sister Virginia L. (Howe) Thomas of Florida; his niece Sarah A. Schmidt of Hinesburg, VT and his nephew Robert Seawright of Salt Lake City, UT. He was predeceased by his parents, most recently by his mother Karolyn on February 6, 2014.At Derek’s request, visiting hours will be omitted. Private inurnment following cremation will take place in the Kemp lot in Green River Cemetery, Greenfield, MA. A memorial service in celebration of Derek’s life will take place at St. James Episcopal Church at the corner of Federal and Church Streets, Greenfield, MA, on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 2:00PM. Rev. Heather Blais, Rector, will officiate. A reception will follow in the Whiteman Room of the church. A musical prelude of Beatles music will be performed by Mr. Greg Field in the nave of the church prior to the memorial service from 1:00PM until 1:45PM.At Kempy’s request, flowers are respectfully asked to be omitted.
