Dennis Welcome Obituary

Deerfield, Massachusetts
Dennis Edward Welcome, Sr., 76, a resident of 360 Upper Road, passed peacefully on November 29, 2018 with loving members of his family at his side, at the Charlene Manor Extended Care nursing facility following complications of Parkinson Disease.
A native of Greenfield, MA, he was born on August 22,1942 to Maud E. (Nichols) and Lawrence G. Welcome and was educated in local public schools. Dennis was employed as a groundskeeper for Historic Deerfield, later as a commercial truck driver for 29 years (his CB handle was "Slow Poke") with Sitterly-Allied Van Lines, then for Rule Tool Co., and retired from Nap's Sales and Service.
Dennis married the former, Beverly Ann (Luce) Mills, on March 28, 1981. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 37 years, as well as their children: Lisa and George Tompsett, Denise and Brad Lemieux, Dennis and Susan Welcome, James and Theresa Welcome, Kenneth Mills, Kerry and Karen Mills, Rhonda Scranton, Cyndi Allenby and Norman Mills. Additionally, Dennis leaves his devoted siblings: Donald Welcome (his twin brother), Eva Marturano, Everett Welcome, Lawrence "Sonny" Welcome and his wife Barbara, George Welcome and Frances Welcome. Additionally, he will be missed by his adoring 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous extended family members. Dennis was predeceased by his grandparents; Joseph G. and Alma (Otto) Welcome, who raised him, by his parents Lawrence and Maud, as well as by his siblings Ellen Isleib, Howard Welcome and by Lorri and Louise Welcome.
In 1985 Dennis & Beverly opened their home and their hearts to elders from the Adult Family Care (Life Path) and cared for them as a part of their family. The elders stayed with them for as little as six weeks and as long as 19 years. Dennis loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved everyone, and the love was returned a thousand fold. He was known for helping anyone and for his loyalty. Dennis collected records and loved music from the 1950's as well as "old" country music. Dennis enjoyed RV"ing", hunting "white tailed deer", fishing, collecting horses, and playing cards including poker, pitch and hearts. Dennis was an ardent observer of his children and grandchildren's sporting events over the years. He was a former member of the Old Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department, and attended the South County Senior Center with his wife Beverly.
Funeral services celebrating Dennis's life, will be conducted on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from the McCarthy Funeral Homes, 36 Bank Row, Greenfield, MA at 10:00 AM, officiated by his grandson, Marvin Bentley II, who will share remembrances provided by Dennis's family.
