South Hadley, MASouth Hadley, MA - David R. Michaud, 76, was called to eternal life on April 14, 2016 at Wingate of South Hadley. He was born in New Britain, CT on January 12, 1940, the son of Eva (Roy) and Joseph Michaud. The family moved to Greenfield, MA in 1945 and Dave attended Greenfield schools, graduating from Greenfield High School and later the University of Massachusetts. He entered the Air Force in 1963 and served at Ellsworth AFB, SD, and at bases in Thailand and Vietnam before returning for an assignment as Services Officer at Westover AFB in 1967. After a year, he left active duty to become the Base Housing Officer in a civilian capacity, where he remained until the Air Force Reserve assumed command of the base in 1974. He worked for the Air Force Reserve in a variety of positions until his retirement in 1997, in the position of Support Group Executive Officer. Dave was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Richard. He is survived by his nephew Ronald Michaud and his wife Janet of Guilford, VT and their children, Christine Madore, husband Justin and son Ryan of Belchertown, MA and Jennifer Brittan, husband Daniel and daughter Olivia of Brentwood, NH; his niece Deborah Scoble of Greenfield, MA and her children Heather Scoble, fiancée Justin Dion of Greenfield, MA, Rick Scoble, partner Hilary Snow of Greenfield, MA and his ex-wife Sue (Jarvis) Mezzetti, of Murrells Inlet, SC. Dave was an avid sports fan and was always an enthusiastic supporter of the New England Patriots, Boston Celtics and the Boston Red Sox. He also enjoyed dog racing and was a frequent visitor to local tracks prior to their closure. He enjoyed the company and conversation of many of his friends who will miss his viewpoint, sharp wit and laughter. Among his best friends he leaves behind: Phil and Delores Brown, Chip Connolly, Sandy Masek, Monica Lindberg, Deborah Heady, Al Siano, Ed Sierzego, Frank Simone, Frank Ludwig, Jim and Ginny Ballou, Tom and Carol McShane, and Vince and Mitzi Vincellette. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be observed on SATURDAY, April 23, 2016 at 10:00AM at Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main Street, Greenfield, MA, with Msgr. Ronald G. Yargeau, Pastor as the celebrant. Rites of committal and inurnment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Greenfield, MA. Military honors will be conducted by members of the Elite Patriot Honor Guard of the United States Air Force from Westover AFB, Chicopee, MA, assisted by members of the Hale-Clapp VFW Post #3295 of South Deerfield, MA who will provide a firing detail. A reception and celebration of David’s life, will follow at the Terrazza Restaurant at the Greenfield Country Club with remembrances to be shared by family and friends. Visiting hours will be observed on FRIDAY, April 22, 2016 from the McCarthy Funeral Homes, 36 Bank Row, Greenfield, MA from 6:00PM until 8:00PM.
