David Konopka Obituary

David Konopka, 70 of Charlemont passed away July 15th, 2024, after a long and hard fought battle for his health. He passed peacefully with friends and family that had been by his side for days prior to his passing.

He was born on February 10, 1954 to Matthew and Kathleen Konopka. He was raised in Greenfield and graduated from Greenfield High School.

He worked for over 30 years with his father at Pioneer Valley Steel in Greenfield and then at Barkers Steel Co. in South Deerfield, where he ultimately retired from.

He leaves behind his daughter, Danielle Shea, and her husband Kevin and his two grandchildren, Kaleb and Lilliana Shea.

David belonged to Greenfield Country Club and was an avid golfer. He leaves behind many friends he made on the golf course. He was a respected member and well known golfer in the area. He loved to play golf, almost as much as he loved to play the drums. One of his favorite hobbies was to buy and return drum sets, he was always in search of the perfect set. He was a very talented drummer, and was in many popular bands in the area. Thursday night band practice at his house was always his favorite. His band members truly became his second family. Friends and family were always the most important to him. Being a father and grandfather were two of his favorite things. He held his family close, and was the rock in many people's lives. As you can see David was an incredible human, and touched the lives of many. He was talented, funny and caring. His quick wit and dry sense of humor kept everyone laughing, and on their toes.

He leaves behind his sister Susan Zahner and her husband John, his sister Sandy Soderberg, his brother Bobby Konopka, and his other brother Corey Johnson, as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many cousins and his uncle, Donald Maloney.

He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Tim McCarthy and his niece, Jenna Soderberg.

Per David's wishes, we will be having a celebration of life. This will be held at The Eagles in Buckland on Sunday, October 20th from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
