Charles V. Sturtevant

Charles Venton Sturtevant, 75, a native of Greenfield passed peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2023 at BSMC, Springfield, MA. He was born on April 24,1948 to Ellis Charles and Gerotha Lee (Anderson) Sturtevant. He and his siblings, brother William and sister Linda resided at 137 Wells Street, Greenfield, MA with their parents.

It was determined early in Charles’ youth, that he had delayed cognitive development and as a consequence, was sent to the former Belchertown State School where he resided until it’s closing. Charles then entered the May Institute where he was lovingly cared for and respected for over 20 years prior to his passing.

Charles will be remembered for his joyous, gentle and considerate nature. He enjoyed watching television, in particular baseball, walking and eating. He is lovingly remembered by his sister Linda Gail Traceski of Greenfield, MA, as well as his nephew Christian Traceski and grandnephew Oscar Traceski. He was predeceased by his parents, Ellis C. and Gerotha L. Sturtevant, also by his brother William in 1967 and by his brother-in-law Edwin G. Traceski in 2022. Charles is remembered with affection by a cadre of management and staff members at the May Institute who loved him dearly.

Funeral Services will be observed on Thursday, August 17, 2023 with graveside services at 11:00AM at the Green River Cemetery, Greenfield, MA (Section 37) to be officiated by funeral celebrant Jack Cooper.
