Charles (“Chuck”) Simpson Connington, Jr., 84, of Stetson Drive, passed peacefully on August 14, 2015, at home surrounded by his family following a brief illness.
A native of New York, NY, he was born on November 7, 1930, to Charles S. Connington, Sr. and Virginia (Konti) Connington. Chuck was raised in Pelham, NY, and graduated from Pelham High School in 1948. He was a 1952 graduate of Amherst College. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, Chuck earned his M.B.A. from Columbia University in 1956.
On August 18, 1956, Chuck married the former Anne Drysdale, (whom he met in elementary school) in Pelham, NY. They made their home in Athol, MA, until 1958, resided in Orange, MA, from 1958 to 1967, then moved to Greenfield, MA, where they remained until the present.  He worked for nearly 40 years as a sales engineer in the paper industry, utilizing every back road and shortcut in New England to cover his territory. 
Chuck energetically served his community, mentoring small business entrepreneurs for SCORE, collecting water samples for the Connecticut River Watershed Council, and staffing the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce Tourist Information and Welcome Center. He generously supported environmental causes and local arts organizations and tirelessly coordinated alumni events at Amherst College. A natural athlete and avid tennis player, he hit the courts with the Davis Street tennis gang until just days before his passing.
Survivors include his beloved wife and life-long friend, Anne D. Connington, with whom he shared nearly 59 years of marriage; two daughters, Leslie Dunham (and husband Larry) of Ellicott City, MD, and Lois Connington of Starkville, MS; four grandchildren,  Drew Dunham, Amy Dunham, Keith Caprio, and Claire Caprio; and great granddaughter Noelle Dunham. He also leaves his sister Jane C. Elliott of Ft. Washington, PA, five nieces, two nephews, and two cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and stepmothers, Helen (Webber) Connington and Verna (Wine) Connington.
A service in celebration of Chuck’s life will be held at Second Congregational Church, 16 Court Square, Greenfield, MA, on Saturday, August 29 at 2:00 p.m.
Private inurnment will take place at a later date in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Westfield, MA.  In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Connecticut River Watershed Council (www.ctriver.org) 15 Bank Row, Greenfield, MA 01301 or the Pioneer Valley Symphony (www.pvsoc.org) 91 Main Street, Greenfield, MA 01301.
