Turners Falls, MassachusettsCecile (Ceil) M. (Bourget) Fugere, 91, died September 7, 2018, at Elaine Center of Hadley, MA. She was born in Turners Falls to Harry and Anna (Perinet) Bourget. She resided in Turners Falls until she became a resident of Elaine Center of Hadley 7 years ago. She was pre-deceased by her brother, Edwin Bourget. She attended the former St. Anne’s Parochial School and was a graduate of TFHS in the Class of 1946. Cecile worked at New England Box Co in Greenfield, MA. She then went to work as an office manager at Stewart’s Nursery & Garden Center and then to Erving Paper Mills where she worked for over 25 years. After her retirement in 1990, Cecile volunteered at Franklin Medical Center, enjoyed knitting, ceramics, camping, cooking, baking, and spending time with family and friends. She was an active member of the Ladies of St. Anne’s, the St. Anne’s Guild, and the St. Cecile Society.
Cecile was married on May 21, 1949 to Maurice R. Fugere, by Rev. Fr. Albert Fleury, in the former St. Anne’s Church in Turners Falls, MA. They celebrated their 69th anniversary this past May. She was extremely proud of her 3 daughters, 6 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Among her survivors are her beloved husband Maurice, daughters Denise (Fugere) Balthazar and her husband, Gary, of Groton CT., Jeanne (Fugere) Sikora and her husband, David, of Middlebury, CT., Patricia (Fugere) Wheeler and her husband, Stanley, of Montague, MA., granddaughters Jennifer Wheeler of Chicopee, MA., Amy Balthazar of Glastonbury, CT, Ashley (Wheeler) Preece of Cartagena, Columbia, Alison (Sikora) Heller of Katy, TX., Annie (Sikora) Bertoli of Goleta, CA., and grandson Timothy Balthazar of New York, NY. She also leaves her very dear friend, Jane Scott of Greenfield, MA.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be observed on Thursday, September 13 at Our Lady of Peace Church at 90 7th St., Turners Falls, MA, at 11:00AM., with Rev. Fr. Stanley J. Aksamit, Pastor, as the celebrant. Rites of committal and burial, will follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery. The Fugere family will receive guests on Thursday morning prior to the funeral services, at the McCarthy Funeral Homes, 14 Prospect Street, Turners Falls, MA, from 9:15AM until 10:15AM.
