Carol Ann (Kloster) Updike, age 81, longtime resident of Greenfield, passed away peacefully on April 16th.
Born in Joliet, Illinois, Carol was raised there and in Indiana and later Delaware, where she graduated from John Dickinson High School. She worked for the E. I. Dupont Company until her marriage to her husband of 58 years, Robert S. Updike. They spent most of their married life in Greenfield where they raised two sons. Carol was dearly loved by her family and friends, and will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and willingness to help anyone who needed her.
She was very active in the community through Junior Branch, as a board member of Church Street Home, as a cub scout leader and as a volunteer with VIPS (Volunteers in Public Schools) and Baystate Medical Center. Carol’s greatest joys in life were her family and friends, her golden retrievers, Missy, Abby, Sadie, and Kalie, and cooking and baking for gifts and celebrations. A loyal Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, she rarely missed a game.
She was predeceased by her parents and brother and is survived by her husband; sons, Jonathan and Stephen; brother Jim Kloster (Bea); sister Linda Fetterman; sister Peggy Yen (Michael); nieces Michaelene, Susan, Victoria, and Elizabeth; nephew, Alexander; great nieces Violet, Lily, Lillian, and Ruby; great nephews, Zack, Owen, Barrett, and Jack; and twins, Ava and Brielle.
Please omit flowers. Contributions in her memory may be sent to the Friends of the Franklin County Regional Dog Shelter, 10 Sandy Lane, Turners Falls, MA 01376. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
