Greenfield, Massachusetts
Bernice J. (Campbell) Garner, 94, a resident of the Charlene Manor Extended Care, 130 Colrain Road, passed peacefully on Monday afternoon, April 18, 2016 following a period of declining health.
A native of Montague, MA, she was born on December 12, 1921 to Peter J. and Albertine (Fortin) Campbell.  She was educated in Montague Public Schools and a graduate of Turners Falls High School.
She married Stanley Garner on December 19, 1944 in the rectory of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, in Turners Falls, MA while he was serving in the United States Navy during WWII.  She traveled extensively with her husband during his military career, ultimately making their home in Shelburne, MA.  They celebrated 57 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2001.  Bernice was employed by the Erving Paper Company for several years, later at the former Franklin County Public Hospital, where she worked in the Linen Department in Housekeeping Services.
Bernice enjoyed card playing, in particular “Skip Bo”, which she would play every Sunday afternoon with her cousin Betty Mooney. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, rug hooking, needlepoint and quilting.  She often knitted hats for premature infants and gifted them to area hospitals, as well as mittens for area school children.  Her grandchildren were the recipients of her hand sewn “p j’s” on many a birthday or Christmas observance.  Bernice also enjoyed reading, especially Agatha Christie mystery novels.
She is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Hilary C. Mikucki and her husband Michael, of Shelburne Falls, MA and their children:  Taylor (residing at home) and Cameron who attends Emmanuel College in Boston, MA.  Bernice was predeceased by her parents, her daughter Mary (at childbirth in 1957) and her brother Harold Campbell.
Bernice’s request following her death was for simplicity and she will be cremated with no formal services to be observed.  Following cremation, a private inurnment will take place in the Shelburne Center Cemetery, Shelburne, MA where she will be reunited with her husband Stanley.  Visiting hours are omitted.  Expressions of affection are encouraged in her memory in lieu of flowers to the Dakin Humane Society, P.O.
