Greenfield, Massachusetts
Basil D. Basil, 78, of Indianapolis, IN died Thursday, 4/28/16, at home.  Basil was born in Boston, MA on October 12, 1937, the son of James and Ethel (DeMales) Basil.  He was a former resident of Greenfield, graduating from Greenfield High School in 1955.
Basil served in the U.S. Army from September of 1956 to September, 1958 and was stationed in Germany.  After returning home, he attended Northampton Commercial College graduating in 1960.  He then moved to Indianapolis, where he has lived for over fifty years, to work in sales management.
Basil enjoyed boating on Dale Hollow Lake in Kentucky with his family and friends and was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts. His devotion to his family and friends was extraordinary, as he traveled near and far to remain close to those he loved. He was a member of the Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church of Indianapolis.
Besides his sister, Elaine Holden and her husband William of Greenfield, MA, Basil leaves his children Belinda Arnold and Gabriel Brooking of Indiana.   He was predeceased by his son Nathan Brooking.  He also leaves six grandchildren, Lillian Arnold, Tyler and Haley Brooking, and Samantha, Spencer & Nathan Brooking, nephews and nieces, and many great nephews and nieces.
Visiting hours will be observed at the McCarthy Funeral Homes, 36 Bank Row, Greenfield, MA on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 from 4-7PM with an Trisagion prayer service to be offered by Rev. Fr. Thomas J. Cokotis, Pastor of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Holyoke, MA at 6:15PM. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 10:30AM from the McCarthy Funeral Homes, Greenfield, MA, with Rev. Fr. Harry S. Vulopas, Pastor Emeritus (Ret.) of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Holyoke, MA officiating. Rites of committal and interment will follow in the Green River Cemetery, Greenfield, MA. 
Expressions of affection in the form of a charitable contribution in Basil’s memory, are suggested in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society, 59 Bobala Road, Holyoke, MA 01040 or P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma, OK 73123.
