Turners Falls, MassachusettsArthur Eugene Neipp, 85, of 16 Oakman Street died Thursday, February 12, 2015 at home, surrounded by his loving family following a period of declining health.He was born in Montague, MA to Edward H. Neipp and Marion Coates on June 29, 1929. Arthur attended local schools and graduated from Turners Falls High School in the Class of 1948. He went on to further his education by taking courses at Smith College and then served honorably in the US Army from December 1954 to December 1956 where he attained the rank of SP3 as a medical attendant, assigned to the 3rd Army Battalion. Upon his return to civilian life, Arthur worked for Couture Brothers in Turners Falls, MA as a painter and dry wall hanger for 21 years. He then accepted a position in the paint and dry wall section of the Physical Plant at Smith College, where he was a color consultant for an additional 21 years, retiring in 1998. He remained at Smith College as the rental property manager and clerk of the works for several more years. He valued his time there, as he was appreciated for his considerable contributions and skills. Arthur remained active doing part-time work in his retirement. He enjoyed many activities which included antiques, golf, a love of automobiles (in particular BMWs), oriental rugs, gardening (flowers) and he supported several charitable organizations. He was a member of the Turners Falls Athletic Club, a past president of the YMCA’s Men’s Club and of the First Congregational Church of Greenfield. Arthur also served as a trustee and auditor for the Springdale Cemetery Association, Turners Falls, MA.Arthur married the former Beverly J. House in Winchester, NH on June 8, 1955 and they celebrated nearly 50 years together prior to her passing on March 25, 2006. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Kathleen O’Rourke and her husband Dennis of South Deerfield and their children: Kate and Ryan and great granddaughter Tessa; Cynthia Gwosch and her husband Rick of Greenfield and their children: Jody and Daniel and Jeffrey Neipp and his wife Robin of Leyden and their children: Joseph, Diedrick and Holly and two great grandchildren, Emma and Ethan. He also leaves his siblings: Richard Neipp and his wife Marianne, of Ft. Myers, FL; Margaret Kowalski of Easthampton, MA and Lorraine Carson and her husband Richard, of Easthampton, MA, as well as several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews to cherish his memory. Funeral services in celebration of Arthur’s life, his patriotism and his many gifts, will be observed on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the McCarthy Funeral Homes, 14 Prospect Street, Turners Falls, MA at 10:00AM with Rev. Heather Blais, Priest- in- charge of St. James Episcopal Church of Greenfield, MA to officiate. Rites of committal and interment will follow in the Springdale Cemetery, Turners Falls, MA, with military honors to be conducted by the 54th Massachusetts Army National Guard to be assisted by the Hale-Clapp VFW Post #3295, of South Deerfield, MA. Visiting hours will be observed on Wednesday evening, February 18, 2015 at the McCarthy Funeral Homes, 14 Prospect Street, Turners Falls, MA from 5:00PM until 8:00PM.
